    Help Camcorder recording question

Not sure where to post this but he goes.

Got a Sony DCR HC14E video camera. Trying to record onto my PC. The software that came with it is crap. Called Picture package. It records music over the top of my video and can't turn it off. What software can I record into MPEG or something similar?

USB finds the camera and can watch my video on PC but can't record :annoyed:

    Help!

USB is going to be useless mate, i've got a Sony camera aswell and the USB is only really for lo quality video, i dont have a problem recording it though, and it doesnt add music (software that came with mine is called Pixela) Only records them as small 320x240 videos though if i remember correctly. Are you sure theres none settings you can change? maybe its a trial version of the software?

If you want full quality DV (massive file sizes though) you'll need to use the cameras firewire output into a firewire port on your computer. This will open up your options alot, pretty much all video editing packages support DV in.

No problems. Firewire is much better quality, its about 30mb a second though as far as i remember, need plenty hard drive space!

Quality is as good as you'll get though, the exact data the camera recorded totally uncompressed.

Obviously you can edit it down and encode as an mpeg or something like that and make the file size of your final video less.

Hmm, top of the range would probably be Adobe Premiere. Might be a bit overwhelming though with the amount of stuff you can do with it. I'll try look up some others and post again.

robbo, i cheat and use the firewire port on my dvd recorder that way you get a dvd quality copy on a dvd that you can set the record length. obviously you can then rip the dvd (rw) to any format you like or simply reauthour it to get rid of the godawful dvdrecorder "menu"
