Fumes

Hi all,

My mota's stinking of fumes lately when idling its a diesel (PASSAT TDI) and i know they can be smelly at times but this is worse it stinks outside not inside, and it dosnt smell like eggs so the cats ok i THINK! or could it be on the way out? cars done 55000mls serviced by dealer. Could it need a tune of some kind?

You may have run over a plastic bag or somthing) which is slowly melting and burning away when the exhaust gets hot.

It dont smell like plastic, its defenetly fumes prob running a bit rich.:nowords:

The cat's on diesels don't smell like eggs. thay smell more like propane! if it smells like fumes i'd go for egr valve try taking off the vacuum pipe that goes to it and giving it a go at that. or get it scanned the air flow meters on these not very good could be giving a faslse reading sticking more fuel in than it needs.
