    Default Wirelees Router question?

Just bought the D-link DI-624+ wireless router which is G+ 54mbps my question is will this be ok to stream avi files from my pc if i buy a D-Link DWL-G810 Wireless Bridge which has speeds upto 108mbps for the Xbox end....
I've got a funny feeling i may have bought the wrong one .....

Would this do the job or have i just bought one of the family an Xmas present :whistle

should work fine, the bridge will make the xbox think its plugged right into the router. Even tthough its 108Mb capable it will negotiate its connection down to whatever is required, 54, 22 or 11 (or2) depending on signal strength/quality.

    Thanks Malty,
I was unsure that the speed of the router would be enough to stream the avi files...

set the cache to around 15mb on the xbox in XBMC this helps. Personally I found wireless to be too slow for video esp if you do any fastforwarding or rewinding so I went back to wired but you router is newer than mine.

I agree. When I finally did manage to set the bridge up I found it too slow and too unstable. Went back to wired. I ran a permenant cable from router upstairs. Ran it outside the house, clipped up. The bonus was that in the network cable you only use 4 of the cores, so you have 4 spare. So off that cable you can have 2 connections ie terminated in a double RJ45 socket at either end. Then all you need is terminated cables either end. So I have Xbox under the telly permenantly on the Lan and also running an old laptop under telly which has vga cable into telly (with a wireless mini combined keyboard/mouse.. bout 20 quid from comp fair) permenantly plugged onto Lan which is mostly used for Ladbrokes Poker on the big telly. :thumbs

Sorry I waffled on a bit but if you fancy doing it and need any more info on connections or whatever give me a shout. I can sort you out with a long length of cable... you just pay P&P... hows about that? (this is a one off dudes.. so please no replies asking for more... I'd end up on spam butties for the rest of the month )

    Thanks for all the info..
I've not got the wireless bridge yet but by the sounds of things i'm going to have fun trying to get it up and running when it does arrive :nowords:....

Just out of interest what sort of transfer rates did your routers claim they gave?

The bonus was that in the network cable you only use 4 of the cores, so you have 4 spare
I'm liking that Wizzo, if i can't get this up and running i might take u up on your offer.
