    Default Ford Focus C/Locking problem?

    Guys

i have a 1999 V reg 1.4 focus which has a problem in that the central locking doesnt work, i dont have a remote control, i use the key in the drivers door, it's supposed to unlock all the doors and the boot, which it has been doing on and off since i got the car. With the winter here in full force, it now seems worse than ever, although if i was going on a long drive, the doors may just unlock themselves whilst im driving, so it it seems as though the problem is worse when it is really cold. As i said, its been doing it since i got the car, but in the summer it only did it very early in the moring, then was fine for the rest of the day, again, temp dependent.

    Any ideas?

I have a Modeo that had some of the symptoms you have.

Pushing the unlock button once on my remote is supposed to unlock the drivers door only, but every now & again it would unlock all 4 doors & the boot.
Quite often, the rest of the doors would unlock for no reason while driving if it was only the drivers door that was unlocked.

One day, the central locking stopped working on the drivers door, and then decided it was going to work again after a few hours.

I changed the solenoid in the drivers door and everything has been ok since.

My girlfriends mums car has just started doing the same thing, locking and unlocking at random when driving along on her 2002 Focus. If this is a common problem then I've got it to come on my 2003 Focus.

Check the central locking relay, and the wires are live going to the other Door control units.

    TBH not 100% sure,

I know my relays are above the glove box, as you open it there is a small peice you open to reveal the relays,

Try chasing the wires ftom the door, No doubt they come in UNDER the glove box, try tracing from there

    is it a 2 or 4 door ???

do you hear the motor attempting to move when using the key ??

The module is mounted behind the drivers side dash above the kick panel remove the lower drivers dash panel look up to the left by the inner wing and you will see a black box approx 8x4x1 inchwith either 2 or 3 plugs into it this is the central /lock alarm module I have seen instances of water ingress on the unit and plugs from leaks and condensation, unplug the unit and slide the pcb out (only clipped in) check both sides for signs of ingress deposits / verdi clean off with a small brush again look into the plugs and check for signs of corrosion
