secondary hard disk wont format ????

hi all, i have a secondary hard disk setup, it needs to be formatted, i have tried formatting it through disk management and using right-click - format - it still goes to the end and says 'windows has failed to format the drive' what else can i do ?

Which make is it , go to manufacturers website and see if they have their own software to do it eg maxtor do one called maxblast .

Was there a problem with the disk before you tried formatting it ?

it had data on it before i tried to format it, now i cant access it at all, i have tried the formatting utility from seagate and it goes through fine, but i cannot access the hard drive in windows.

Use Disk Manager to delete the existing partition and reboot the PC.

Once rebooted, use Disk Manager to create a new partition and then format from there.

you need to do a low level format to zero out the hard drive , powermax by maxtor is pretty good, however most manufacturers have their own software, just check their site. powermax does most drives, it taks longer to lowlevel format, depending on the disk size, but sometimes its the only way to fix it, you would have to do a standard format after.

ok, i cant seem to download the iso image from the seagate page, can somebody help me out here, it doesent continue to the next page it just stays there

works ok here , you have to agrre to legal stuff , i've downloaded it , its 4.38mb , pm me if you can't still get it

it worked today

but the thing is i dont have the correct atapi.sys file, i need the newer one, according to the MS site, installed the hotfix, it didnt make a diffarence though, i have service pack one which is the minimum to get over the 137GB limit

i only have 127GB as useable

i had this what i did was
right click on my computer and select manage
then select disc managment

highlight the hdd you want and delete any partition
and then format from there

this way worked fine for me with a 200gb samsung
