Default alarm/Boot sensor on Ford Escort 1.4 LX (1996 P reg)

In a fit a rage i slammed down my boot.

when driving, the door light is on (meaning that the car thinks the door is open)
when parked and locked up the central locking kicks in, but the alarm no longer activates ( flashing led on dash ).
if i turn and hold the key, it lights up once and stays off.
can anyone please offer any advice?

ive taken out the sensor and checked the connections, they are in firmly.
(the sensor is in the body of the car, the progs which attach to it and on the actual boot that rises / closes.

any help would be greatly appreciated!

open the bonnet and locate the switch the one that tells the system the bonnet is open, its on the left hand side i think usually black with a rubber around it. I think you have to press it about 15 times in quick sucsession, and the system will go in to test mode this is normally indicated by a horn beep and sometimes indicators. then go round opening doors and trying the key in the locks unlock, lock, double lock every time a sensor is triggered the horn beeps, when you find one not working there's your answer. leave it 30 seconds to exit test mode.

sounds complicated but it's not have a go, you'll be susprised.

Another piece of well informed and class advise from BIG-TED.

After following BIG-TED's procedure and you get no bleeps from the tailgate then, if I remember rightly there's a small white microswitch on the lock mechanism.
This has probably either broken off , got stuck or broken inside, you will need to remove the inner trim and remove the lock to check it out.
You will have to be carefull removing the microswitch from the mechanism in case it is ok as there brittle as fuck m8.

    morning guys!
    thanks for the great advice!
the test activated after 9 presses (light horn beep)
    didnt have to unlock,lock,double lock.
the horn sounded each time the doors where opened.

all the door sensors are active incl boot/bonnet (open close).
however the alarm still doesnt activate...
and the door light is still on when the engine is running / doors shut

    any idea?

    ok more info.
both 5w night driving rear lights broke
entire earth connections on boot are a'ok.
suspect it the door mechanism (rear passanger)
ive been told these mech are 1 combined unit.

    alarm/imobilser does not activate.
gonna take the door apart to see the state of the mechanism and follow urbsy points.
will keep who ever is interested entertained..
