Stupid I had to do it didnt I

Now dont laugh,, Its like this, me and my new (purchased november) nikon D50 were getting along just fine, then i noticed a speck of some foreign substance that appeared in the view finder, so i knew that a slither of some sort had attached itself to the view finder prism inside the camera, now this was an easy thing to remove, so off with the lens and (yes slarti/wingnut,, i did),,,, I blew into the body of the camera thinking that it would remove the object,, well it did , but it also speckled the prism with spittle,, (i could have sworn the blast i did was perfectly dry), so i thought i would remove the spittle, so i got me some not so trusty lens tissues and proceeded to wipe the filter attached to the prism , this was not a good idea as it made it worse, so i put a bit of cleaning fluid on another tissue thinking it would come nice like the lens's do,, oops ,, no it didnt, the cleaning fluid contains isopropyl alcohol, and along with the tissue and the very soft prism filter it scratched the filter, only i never realised it was a scratch, i thought it was just fibres from the tissue, so out come the trusty cotton buds and i decided to give the filter a bath by wetting the end of the bud and try to remove these fibres from the tissue, but the more i rubbed the worse it got so now my camera is off to nikon to have the filter replaced, i have no idea as to the cost, but i bet its the most expensive blow i am gonna pay for.

now you've picked your self up from the floor and thinking, you f%^&ing dickhead, the good news, I now have another D50, cos my missus felt sorry for me and brought me another kit

so guy's (this is to those that think cleaning a camera is easy) DONT blow into the camera body, Dont clean the prism filter, and certainly DONT rub it with a cotton bud.

i now have an air blower (not a can of compressed air) a really nice small camera hoover, and some good quality cleaning cloths,, buy a blower guys, its only a fiver, no matter how careful or dry you think you can blow air from your mouth there's always spittle,, trust me!!! I KNOW

You'd better steer well clear of cleaning the CCD/CMOS sensor then.

A useful tip I read ages ago about cleaning was to use a bellows type footpump as they can produce a far more powerful blast, if needed, than the hand blowers.

I still haven't got round to buying one yet though, despite the fact that the nozzle keeps falling out of my hand blower when I try to give it a really good blast.

Oops!! As I was reading through that I couldn't help thinking about the song 'Paddys sick Note' or 'Why Paddy wont be at work today'. It just went from bad to worse! I hope your lesson won't be too expensive.
