    Default mounting a plasma

    hi guys,
just bought a new pad and was wondering whats the best way to mount a plasma.
by this i mean how can i put it up so theres no cables showing and stuff.

i want somthing that will be future proof so if i replace to a bagger one i dont have to rip out bits of the wall and so on.....also is ther any decent furniture that hides the wires away so i wouldnt have to put it on the wall?

any help or expreiance would be appreciated

Trunking down the wall mate. You will need to route out a space in the wall, put in some trunking (big enough to accomodate sound, power, scart etc etc, even put the scart cables through before you plaster over it and paint to match!

Complete pain in the tits but well worth it for the effect.

You'll be well advised to run at least 4 scarts (DVD, XBOX, SKY, SPARE) through it, as decent scart cables, I doubt you'd be able to remove one of the ends to feed it through afterwards...

    OR

A false wall, would also work...

Lot of hastle to install on a wall and route all the cables so are neat / tidy / un-obtrusive. I thought of mounting to wall , but deceided against it after the probs of getting long quality good priced cables , so i got desktop stand and a nice unit for it to rest on .
Does me (s'cuse the pic , only had a crap phone on me mda)

Nice setup, where did u get the unit from??

Tbops using the trunking and just mounting to the wall and painting it the same colour as the wall would also do the job if you didnt want to bury the cables. It wouldnt look as good as burying them but its easier and will look better than just having cables hanging down. Also means its easier to add/remove cables in the future.

cheers mate , if my memory serves me correctly it was from Ikea for bout 60 notes . I got 2 pairs of chrome legs from B&Q and mounted it on them as the crappy plastic wheels that were on it were , crappy and plastic
Ive also got all the AV cables clipped neatly to the back of the unit with cable clips in a sort of harness , keeping the power cables seperate.

It also depends on your walls. A mate has dry walls and managed to get some special tool for routing cables behind it (it was a little robot with wheels - quite cool actually)

I have solid brick walls so until I get my arse in gear the cables are hanging off the side.

Hi mate, I've only just finished doing this actually. Fortunately for me I was ripping my flat to bits anyway so the mess it made wasnt a problem!

I've put a new power socket in the middle of the wall and made scart/component/co-axial sockets which run down to identical sockets at the bottom. You have to do a wee bit of soldering for this but it's worthwhile for the nice finish. Any filling plastering is easier than you'd think if you haven't done it before.....

You can get whatever plates you need at Nexxia: http://www.nexxia.co.uk/wall_plate_connectors.htm

If you're going to that trouble it's also well worth lining speaker cable for a dolby 5.1 system through to each corner and taking it back to one of these:
    http://www.nexxia.co.uk/Wall_plate_C.../NX-WM-024.jpg

Even if you don't have one yet - it's worth doing while you're at it, trust me - it looks cool when the speakers are up and floating!

I've attatched a mobile pic of what it's like just now. You can kinda see the audio plate sticking out the right hand side and look! no wires!

The wall mount is pretty solid and I got that from here: https://secure.121electricals.com/de...sp/sku=RDFLCD1

    Hope that's of use.

    J

P.S. I still need a decent unit obviously! The one above looks perfect!

As long as you use correct mounting bracket and fixings you should be fine.I would suggest using rawlbolts with a 8 or 10 mm thread on the stud.
When fixing into brickwork , mortar joints should be avoided

The bolts Kracken listed are the ones I used, but they are very easy to screw up and then they take some grief to get back out of the wall but the way we tested it was to put the bracket up and then get someone to hang off it. If it doesn't budge the screen will stay ok Used this method on 4 42" plasmas that were all >30kg
