    Default THREADS

All i can say is: WHAT THE FUCK! this is by far the most disturbing film ive ever seen. Set in sheffield, it follows the lives of two families living normal lives as tensions between the soviets and the USA grow over a dispute in the middle east. Things get worse and eventually nuclear war breaks loose. Filmed in a docu-drama kind of way, this is the most realistic portrayal of what would happen to britain weeks, months and years after being blown to shit by nukes. Worth watching but not in any way pleasant viewing.

    10/10

I was about 7 when it came out. Scared the crap out of me, because all the places it showed getting blown up were just down the street from my house.

I was very young when this was shown on TV and it stuck with me for years. Horrifying, incredibly realistic (i would imagine!) and probably did as much to shock the politicians into reviewing their stance as any 30 year public campaign did.

Theres a scene with a woman giving birth which wouldnt look out of place in a Wes Craven movie lol.

Gonna look for a copy now.....

i downloaded because of this thread(no pun intended) and thought it was great

i wouldnt agree on how realistic it was though, the way families acted
    Spoiler:
and the way they had to work in fields etc.
    was very good, but
    Spoiler:
i disagreed wtih the way the nations greats ran the situation from the basement of a town hall. that simply wouldn't have happened and they would have been better prepared than they were. having the only transmitter for their radio on the roof is just silly and botching one up is impossible as far as i recall from physics. yes you can botch a recieving ariel (stick your finger in the ariel socket on your tv and you'll probably get a picture) but no way can you botch up a transmitter. bending a coat hangver into shape just isnt going to cut it for transmitting signals, and
the author seemed to overlook a lot of things

apart from the goverment scenes i thought it was very realistic and well done, and although i think the character build up might put off a lot of people I felt it was needed to make viewers have a feel for what was happening to the characters

I watched it on the basis of this post and thought it was dump to be honest. Dated (expected, but jees) and boring as buggery.

Reminded me of those documentaries you had to watch at school in the assembly hall on a projector.

    Oh well.

I expected the 'docu-style' (but of course you knew that), just not shit, like the ones I remember from school.

I guess you had to be there!! We're spoiled these days, special effects have moved on so much.
When it was released it was meant to be gritty and disturbing, we'd all been crapping ourselves for thirty odd years about the cold war.
