Mass filename renaming software?

Hey y'all

Does anyone know of any decent software that'll rename a collection of mp3 files?

My mp3 player plays songs in alphabetical order, so I need to rename the files with a 1,2,3,4 etc at the start of the filename, to get them to play in the order I want.

Also, with regards to naming files in general, I'm a bit of a pedant, and like it to be 'just so'. So any proggies with a decent interface and advanced options would be much appreciated...if it even exists

try 'tag and rename'. i had been looking for a piece of software like this for ages. easy to use and works 100%. give me a shout if you need some advice.

For the renaming and numbering of MP3s you can't beat Tag and Rename (LINK)

It searches the net against the details you already have and helps in renaming your album tracks, also adds artwork etc if available. It will also retag based on already known info and is configurable for what you would like in the file name structure.
