    Default car auctions, advice/opinions pls

    hi

i'm selling my motor and my missis's as we only need one car, with the money from that and some savings i'm looking to buy a newer motor around the 10k mark and i'm wondering if its a good idea to go to the auctions with it??

you hear horror stories of people buying lemons etc, and on ther other side of the coin you hear amazing bargains.

can you get full service history and hpi checked cars etc??

any opinions or advice is appreciated

to be honest m8 all cars you see on car dealers forecourts are from major auctions.
BCA,ADT etc.. I know cos I used to trade with the big boys but they were able to buy more than me, and get a better price thru offering deals with finance companies wereby, I had to advertise locally and sit and pray a punter would buy from me.

Good sale to go to is: http://www.british-car-auctions.co.u...aspx?page=3506

so go and get youself a good deal from a major auction ,Afew ponters:
    1. stay away from the small auctions as most of the old trade sales/ knackers go to the smaller ockys.
    2. get a car trade price mag like parkers for a cross the board guide.

3.dont pay above your pocket and 4.dont get carried away with the auctioneer as he will hype up the price if he sees you are a newbie just nod and walk away and then he will come back again to you.

    best of luck

The fact of the matter mate is that if auctions are open to the public you will probably end up paying more in an auction than you would if you got something off eBay or Autotrader (if you barter)

All these TV auction shows have totaly led lay the "get a bargin at the auction" theory..

Tho it may be different up north? I'm just talking SE..

There was a recent episode of 5th gear where they discovered the same, bought a car from the auctions to find out they could of got it for a lot cheaper from the private ads (without even bartering) We put 4 brand new Zafiras in the auction before christmas and they all sold for more than we could of sold them for traditionaly!

car auctions aren't what they used to be-probably more crowded than ever before and so many watchers and posers, i'd be happy to pay a tenner admission just to be able to see around better and have less messers to climb and fight my way past and yes there are real bargains to be had but same rules apply-take a knowledgable friend!
