Connection problems

I am a member of a FTP where I get dedicated 2MB connection, usually with constant 238kb/s. However recently my speeds have been a lot below, currently 94kb/s but the fluxuate a lot.

Now I'm not sure what has caused this. I am on 2MB BTYahoo! bb using a Linksys WAG54G directly connected to this PC.

Usually the only times the connection lags like this is if I use bitorrent or limewire (neither of which have been running).

Hopefully someone here can help explain and hopefully fix it

Try downloading some of this test file from Zen and see what speeds you're getting. If it's running at full speed when your ftp is slow then it's likely to be the ftp server.

goto this web site www.testmy.net and try testing your connection there and compair the results with others on the chart.. That should tell you where you need to be (or maybe already passed depending on your package you have from yahoo)

What a terrible test site.

It tells me I can download at around 33kB/sec, while the Zen test file comes down at 240kB/sec, AND it crashes Opera after the test has finished.
