Flash cart, pass me/flash me/magic key?

Ok, I've done some research into all the flash carts specificly for DS, but am having difficulty deciding which one to plump for.

Please don't answer saying that it's a matter of preference. I'd like some personal opinions to help me pick from the following-

1. GBA flash cart with either the NDS rom patcher or the WRG rom patcher

2. Supercard - works a lot better with NDS roms and doesn't always need patching

3. M3 - seems to be the best out there so far. Its a lot like the GBAMP but its for the DS and can do basically everything from ROMs to Media.

4. Neo Flash kit - first DS flash cart released, mostly used by DS Dev teams since they get them for free. It is quite expensive but has the highest compatability.

5. XG Flash 2 turbo plus - don't know much about abit, but seems similar to the supercard

6. Flash 2 Advance - standard flash cart with built in memory

In order to use these there is a key element needed. Either the firmwire or flashme update for your DS. In order to do this I'll either need:

1. dspassme

2. passkey/magickey

or something along these lines.

I'd go for the supercard as its got huge storage potential (up to 2GB) and mines has worked pretty well for both NDS and gba roms. I would also recommend the passkey as mines has worked great (i still havn't flashed the firmware)

only 1 rom doesnt work on the supercard and thats the pokemon game as it requires a hardware clock on the cart, the M3 has that. other than that, the supercard wins on most counts as its simple, cheap and well supported

pokemon seems to be working in the new firmware update too, im not sure if the hardware clock thing was true or not, either way the supercard roxxxxx

Sorry for jumping on the thread here but while its up and u been sorted...

I got a DS sitting here, blue one, from a november 05 stock.

Passme, supercard, firmware etc confuse me - do you only need a pass me if u havent got the right firmware?

If you have a blue DS, you would need a SuperPass 2. With the SuperPass 2 you can either use it as is (ok, but not the best option), or you can use it to flash the firmare on your DS.

Flashing the firmware has a number of advantages

1) No ugly SuperPass sticking out the GBA slot.
2) Easy to recover should you run a trojan on your DS.
3) Longer battery life.

Once the firmware on your DS is flashed, you no longer need the SuperPass2 at all. You can sell it on, or use it to flash other DS's.

The SuperCards now run every DS rom available. Its just a matter of ...

1) Downloading the rom
2) Patching with the SuperCard patching software
3) Copying the patched files onto your SD card
4) Insert the SD card into the SuperCard
5) Insert Supercard into the DS
6) Selecting the game from the menu, and off it goes.

Two types of SuperCard available, CF and SD, both similar, but the SD version is smaller and neater, sticking out about 5mm from the DS slot. The CF version sticks out about 25mm.

On a 1gig SD / CF card you will fit around 35-40 games.

@ glencook: another cheers for that info ! Makes things alot easier since I've read lots of threads and not ben able to make any sense of the info ! Have you also got a dummy's guide to flashing firmware as well and which files are needed/where to get them ? Going to order a white JAP DS this week so presume the firmware will need flashing.

Maybe you could make a new thread with all the instructions etc and it being made a sticky ?

cheers for that Glen ! The whole procedure doesn't seem too bad now ! Was a bit dubious/worried about the flashing routine etc and what to buy but you've cleared everything up. Once I order my DS I will order the necessary stuff from you too Although I'm sure I will be back to ask more questions, etc ! *L*

Someone who has a superpass 2 could sell it to another DF member for whatever they paid minus a couple of quid, then they could do the same for the next guy...

So we all end up only paying £2 to flash out DS's (Not that I've got mine yet!)

jeez you lot are tight, its only 15 quid for a superpass! havin the superpass is a good idea incase somethin goes wrong, as mine did when i tried to play MK, im sure if the same happened you wouldnt wanna be asking who had the communal superpass this week
