you get what you pay for, theres one major advantage the torrents have over ng's and thats that theyre free, personally i think ng's are worth the money but if your getting what you want off torrent and you dont mind the downsides then fair enough stay where you are

another one here for newsgroups. Used to use private FTP's etc but for download speed and cost newsgroups wins hands down.

Been using newzbin/newshosting for about 4 months now and have not regretted anything. Easy to pick up and I recommend it to everyone who wants to download. Maxes out my 8mb connection all day long.

I do use torrents but only for UK tv programs since there are not too many on newsgroups. Speed wise I can get about 150 kb/s.

Have done the torrent thing, not private unfortunatly, got fed up with having to rely on others to seed so jumped on the newsgroups bandwagon.

Currently pay 8 quid a month with newshosting.com and 25p a week for newzbin and use newsleecher. seems a decent service and my connecion is maxed out constantly, what more can you ask for?!

there is the odd stuff but its mostly bbc stuff, the best one ive found for uk stuff is alt.bin.british.drama and alt.bin.multimedia.comedy.british

the nzb sites dont reflect how much stuff from uk telly is on there im not going to say theres loads cos theres not but those 2 groups tend to have the most

Torrents are ok when you want to go to bed one night and leave the computer on downloading "random shite" overnight - just drag a load into your client then sleep...!
Newsgroups are cool basically because of the speed...!

I have just switched hosting from pipex to ntHell and wondered what the comparison in access was like.. Pipex limited me to 10gb a month whereas I cannot see any limit set by ntHell...

Also, how many articles do you guys (and gals?) limit downloads to? Just that some places have way over 100k and I couldn't be fucked waiting for all those to come in, lol! Also, hows it done in grabit??
Plus, does anyone have any recommendations for the best places to look in (ye, I know it depends on what you're after, but just in general!)?

I'd use www.binsearch.info mate. Saves you having to download the headers in your reader. Either that or use an indexing service like newzbin. Both are searchable and will generate nzb files when you have found what you need.

Also, does anyone know why the following may occur? When I'm downloading a file sometimes, it goes in "bursts" - ie, download max speed for a few seconds, then like 20 seconds of complete inactivity, then another short burst etc...

Those search sites don't seem to throw up much... Is there no sites which you can search through specific groups without you having to download all headers first? Just I was looking at one group before and there were over 70mb of HEADERS to download!

john, use newzbin, you can search through all the groups and it lists the posts in http format so no headers to download until you decide you want that particular thing wether it be a film, game or whatever. at 25p a week its a steal

Hi John i'm not sure if i've read your post's right....
But why are u downloading headers?
I tend to use sites like newzbin and nzbzone to search the groups and then use the nzb to get what i want off the group.
If i've missed the point please ignore
