    Which modem are you using?
I used to use the Alcatel green frog modem and it would disconnecte and I would then not be able to reconnect without either rebooting or unplugging the modem and pluggin it back in.

I had to update the drivers I think to sort it out, but there was only a few versions that were ok after they went bad again. no idea which versions were good. sorry

Throw that shitty modem away and go buy yourself an Efficient Networks 5861 router.

    £20 or thereabouts on fleabay.

Trust me on ths one Nikki, the modem you have is a pile of dog doo.

I've done a fleabay search for you and there are quite a few 5861's to choose from.

Don't worry about getting one that is still locked down with the BT firmware, I'll unlock it for free for you.

    Cheers for that PT,

My brother is on BT ADSL too, with a different modem, and he still gets dissconnected, is it worth just packing BT in all together and going to another ISP provider?

Could be a few things ...

*Those modems are wank - they draw too much USB power that causes allot of problems. Try powering it from a hub.

*It could be your internal phone line in the house has a kink or crap connection somewhere.

*It could be your external phone line out in the street or under the road.

N.B. Either of these could create noise on the line that would cause it to fuck up.

Try moving your pc to the first phone point in the house and plug in there with any extentions unplugged etc.

Also some cheap electricals can fuck your ADSL up like christmas lights that flash - sounds daft but has been proven in the past.

In which case you might want to try an extention cable with some mains filters in.

Overall moving ISP wont fix FA unless its the modem - the phone line and your mains supply will be the same.

    oE.

I personally know 4 people whose modems I have substituted for a decent router, and not one of them has a problem with BT since the 5861 has gone in place.

Do as oE has suggested to eliminate any possible "outside" element, and if that doesn't work then it's time to part with £20 or thereabouts.
