    Help Personal Reg

I'm thinking of getting a personal reg for my car off ebay, but I'm just wondering if anyone knows of anywhere to check on the net or whatever if a reg is currently in use or has any "history" etc!?

Well http://www.newreg.co.uk/ will let you choose (new style reg), and say whether it's in use or not. In fact a lot of "personalised plates" websites do this.

Cheers guys! I already have all them sites, i'm just cautious of buying one on ebay!
was gonna get one months ago that was actually P4UL B, but the fella sent me a second chance offer coz his brother-in-law was bidding on it too or something, and I thought that was right dodgy so steered clear coz he had low feedback and there was feedback left for the plate.
This one now is P14VL B and its not too expensive either! What you reckon? hehe!

You will have the plate as P14UL B for about 2 weeks before you get stopped by the fuzz. The hassle you will get will mean your plate will quickly become

I've got a mate with a right dodgy reg and he hasn't been pulled by the police, the 1 and the 3 are put together with a convenient screw to make a "R", and the bottom of the 3 doesn't turn all the way round! hehe!
Can they fine you for it or just stop you and tell you to get it changed!?

    Info Re: Personal Reg

it states on my paperwork that
"It is an offence to alter spacing lettering etc"

what the penalties are im unsure but think they have the right to take plate from you but that would be in extreme cases i guess

also once the coppers stop you once they will just hassle you all the time

The DVLA have the power to confiscate your plate without compensation. However, this can only happen after a minumim of one warning. I think the fine for bad plates can be up to £1000

The illegal plate should also fail a MOT... so you will need two sets of plates.

The new rules regarding the manufacture of plates should also mean that the shops who create the plates should refuse to make the illegal plate, so you will have to get them made by a place that makes plates for carshows etc.

With all this anti-terrorist automatic numberplate reading crud going on, they are cracking down. Another thing worthy to note is that some cop cars have these systems fitted to the cars now. This means that while they are driving down the road the car automatically beeps when reads number plates that expired tax etc (and shows the plate on a TV screen). A snazzy thing indeed. However, it also flags plates it can't read!

They certainly are, I paid £250 for mine from the DVLA when Newreg and others wanted over £500 for it.

I'll second that - my plate was unregistered and most sites wanted £300+ and the £80 transfer fee on top of that... Got it from DVLA-som for £250 INC £80 transfer!!!

Also, I've been fine about getting pulled for spacing too... Mine is K3 YMA but I have it together to just read K3YMA and I've been pulled about four times I think for OTHER reasons and not once have they mentioned it!
