Joey Barton is ready to hand in a transfer request at Manchester City Football Club.


The highly-rated midfielder is thought to be disappointed with terms of a new contract being offered by the Blues, who have been locked in talks over new deal with the player since last week.

It is now being reported that the 23-year-old is willing to spark a transfer scramble amongst a number of Premiership clubs by handing in a transfer request at Eastlands.

This will come as a huge blow to manager Stuart Pearce, who is determined to build a squad capable of challenging at the right end of the table.

Can Barton be anymore of a twat? After City kept faith with him following the 'cigar to eyeball' incident with a youth team goalkeeper and his mullering of a young Everton fan during their pre-season tour, he goes and does this on the eve of the final day of the transfer window. All this after Pearce inspires him to some of his finest form to date. Money grabbing wanker of the highest order.

Reports coming from Sky Sports are suggesting that contract talks between the club and Joey Barton have broken down to such an extent that the midfielder has handed in a transfer request.

If true, this adds credibility to reports earlier this month that suggested Barton was holding out for wages in the region of £30k per week.

Now I'm a fan of Barton as a footballer but I'm afraid he has a rather inflated opinion of himself. He is not in the same class as a Gerrard or Lampard and as such cannot expect to make excessive demands of a club that has done nothing but support him through his well publicised troubles.
In my opinion City should call his bluff, accept his request and hold out for a fee that matches his demands and inflated opinion of himself. Is anyone likely to bid in the region of £10 million?

I think him at a price of about 4m is an amazing buy, and I fully expect him to end up at either ManU, Arsenal, Newcastle or Liverpool -i really think he is that good when on form.

His attitude is questionable, but with all this shit happening to his brother, perhaps thats put his life into perspective - he certainly has shown an upturn in form on teh pitch since around that time - so who knows.

Either way, 4m is a safe gamble ona player like him, and if he turns out to be the player he is now - then its also an amazing steal.
