    Help Hard drive problems???

PC has been running crap for a few days now, so i decided to wipe the slate clean and do a clean install. Now things have gone from bad to worse. First step after install was to get all M$ updates, but it errors when trying to download.
I ran chkdsk and get many errors:
File record segment 11387 is unreadable
File record segment 11388 is unreadable
    And on..................
Is this the sign of a fooked hard drive, or something more sinister?

Any help would be much appreciated. Don't want to go and fork out for new HD if i don't need to.

    Not neccessarily.

    Its probably the updates.

If you`ve installed XP SP1 and tried updating it tends to go wrong.

There are 2 solutions I`ve come across get a SP2 CD and update with that, then get the other updates, or (I can`t believe the guy did it) but do 1 update at a time (you`ll be seeing the Doc I`d imagine doing this. ).

TBH Gazzr I'd be tempted to boot from the installation CD and enter the Recovery Console (option "R") when it prompts. Once in there use "chkdsk /r" to identify & correct any HD faults.

After all, if you're getting those errors from a chkdsk then it smells of bad segmentation and/or faulty FAT/MFT entries. If the /r finds & cures the faults, but they reappear later, then it's replacement HD time I reckon.
