dirty slags - Job grading

our company just performed one of these job grading/wages thingys.
where each job within the company is graded etc.
these grades then relate to a wage band.

in all there are 14 grades, with the GM being grade 1 and the receptionist/secutary being grade 14.

so then as the most senior technical member of staff (admitantly there are only two of us)...i am technicaly responsible for all IT/Coms and other shit no one wants to do...

what lvl on the 1-14 do you think i got ?

the only people who perform less important roles are the receptionist and trainie sales people....

and my boss ? someone who has never worked in IT before and hasnt got the first clue about anything technical.....well they are grade 5.

this was supposed to be an excersise to make sure everyone got a fair crack of the whip.... as per normal the people incharge of the whole shebang used it to better themselves whilst shitting all over everyone else.

im all over jobserve and cwjobs like a rash....
trouble is getting thru the masses of agencys is almost as hard as getting an interview which again is equaly difficult to get the role.

im sure 80% of the stuff on Jobserver is total bollocks and dosnt exsist.

its a nightmare......

Well it would depend what you do. My company are always on the look out for good people. However nearly all of our sysadmins are in our York offices. The London office is reserved for pre sales, tech leads and some directors.

Job grading is bullshit, my company carried out one of these things a few years ago.

In my department their are 5 team members and one team leader, 4 of us all earn the same except one of one of the women who earns more than our team leader, why, because see a personal friend of our overall manager, so therefore grading is bullshit, because it is applied to 99% of staff, but when management what to bend the rules they can.

Fucking hate big corporate companies, you ask for a pay rise and get told that theres no extra money in the pot, then i heard from the maintance guys that they are going to our head office because the MD has just had £20,000 worth of new furniture delivered to park this fat arse on.

I dunno why you are all getting so worked up there has been a lot more PC bullshit things like this creaping into companies over the last few years what real diffrence does it make? non! You still get the same pay and have the same working conditions so dont get pissed off about it.

just becasue it happens that dosnt make it right...
