Nokia 3410 Sim Reg

Hey, tryin to fix a phone for my girlfriends dad. His 3410 basicly wont turn on, but he got given another 3410 by a mate. Now as soon as he put his SIM from his old phone, into the new one, it came up SIM Resgistration Failed. The sim had lots of lines and was very old, so i rang O2, and persumed it would jus b it was damaged. They are as we speak transferring the number onto a new SIM that will work fine.

Any way, i put the new sim in his new 3410 it comes up O2 and has a signal for about 2seconds when you turn it on, then all of a sudden, it comes up SIM Registration Failed. So i try the sim in my phone, and it works fine, stays for ages.

So guys? any help as to why its doing this?

ok the O2 SIM card works in all of my other phones apart from this 3410, but when i put the O2 SIM card in the 3410 it comes up SIM Reg Failed but other networks work. But the sim, was brand new from the packet. so i dont quite get it?

the serial number (imei) of the handset is blacklisted by the network (possibly because the handset has been reported stolen etc)

PS - don't ask on the forum for info about changing the imei - it's illegal in the uk and can't be discussed on the forum

I no it is, but when it is blacklisted, doesnt the phone get barred on all UK networks? not just one?

not necessarily, sometimes it takes a while for the info to get shared between all networks and for them to act on it.

PS - sorry wasn't trying to be rude/sarky with my imei comment about the rules etc.
