How longs the installation take? Mines been chugging away for about 20 mins now and the progress bar is about 1/10th of the way along. I don't have a terrible system either.
LEEDS AND PROUD
Yeah it takes ages i did a upgrade on my laptop and it took around 2 hours or so
Just putting my Ghost Image back on my machine. It's nice, but not usuable as a main OS just yet.
Drivers are the main issue here. The nVidia Drivers that come as standard don't work and leave you with a almost black screen. You need to use the new drivers released today before it'll work.
It took an absolute age to install for me. I'd say at least twice as long as a normal XP SP2 install and reboots also take an age.
It's looking promising though. XP Beta2 was pretty much the same story so it'll get better.
The 64 bit edition, is now loading up on A.B.Cores
install time for me was 1 hour but that is expected
final build will be around 15 -20 minutes
i have had no problem with drivers
If I try and install through windows all I get is it hanging on the Compatibility checks bit (right ater entering the serial).
If i try from boot then I just get the background image nothing else.
I really wanted to check this out Anyone any ideas??
All sweeping statements are wrong.
tested the 64bit version seems slow and buggy but thats betas for you
also tried the 64bit edition.... also seems slow and buggy. Tomorrow I will try the 32bit ed on the same computer and report back if it is any better!
I've gone off Windows completely. I haven't used it for 6 years now. Slackware Linux all the way for me!
confirmed... the 32 bit edition is running tons better on the same PC. I would stay away from the 64bit ed, it seems a bit pants!
Ok, here is my mini review on Vista...
As said above, the 64bit edition seems really bad. Totally unusable. The 32bit edition (on the same PC) was much more useable. However, after only 15 mins of use I am still finding issues. Its not drastic stuff like the 64 bit edition, but it still seems easy to get something "not responding" (and I'm talking about the vista app's... not anything I have installed).
Yes, it's pretty. Yes its a little flash. However, it still looks like Windows XP with bells and whistles on. The extra stuff you get on vista won't really give you a "wow" factor after 10 mins. It will be nice when its done, but at the moment I find it too unstable to use as a main OS at the moment.
Stability ratings I would give...
32bit Ed = 90 %
64bit Ed = less than 50 %
Obviously this could be down to my hardware. It will be interesting to see what other people think?
DG's bottom line verdict = "STOP! This OS is not ready yet!"

Couldn't put it better myself. The main OS programs aren't stable, yet alone anything you'll install on it. Next release maybe...
They are completely overhauling the way the OS draws the windows... It will probably be akin to Windows 3.1 -> Windows 95 in that the release of Windows 95 caused millions of users to upgrade their RAM. Wow! I remember paying ~£100 for 4Mb!!!! Ouch!!
I guess this release of Windows will cause many people to upgrade their kit, simply because of the huge overheads of the OS. Ol' Bill has been banging on about making PC's the centre of the digital home, so my guess is that when it is all finished there will be loads of support & wizards for things like wireless streaming of content, etc...
I bet there will be lots of hand-holding for the non-techy crowds who just shelled out a fortune for a HDTV (non-HDMI!) and have nowt to watch on it!

so anyone got the activaton sussd yet ? I only have a few days left
Guys
5308.60 is out.
This build is the 60th recompile, and purportedly more stable, less troublesome, smoother, faster, and without the memory leaks.
I'm off looking now...
*EDIT* - apparently the most changes are in the Server Edition.

and still no way of disabling the activation yet?
and found this regarding the 60th edition
......BTW 5308.60 has Windows DVD Maker and that DVD Codec for MCE; according to my experience only the sidebar codec collapsed.
