Default ide hard drive not responding

pc froze up and i was forced to restart, when it restarted the hard drive did not appear.
ive tried moving cables jumpers and even other hard drives (which will work) but still cant get it to see this drive.
bought a new drive today and im instailling has i type.

but the question is what can i do with this other drive? ive got lots of stuff on it i want. including a proper version of windows xp pro.
is there anyway i can get to this stuff?

If the drive is not detected at POST, then the only way you are getting the data off of it is via intrusive means (very expensive).
Understeer is when you hit a wall with the front of your car
Oversteer is when you hit the wall with the back of your car
Horsepower is how fast your car hits the wall
Torque is how far your car sends the wall across the field once you've hit it
