With regards to the Techy, they are very very good recievers and sooooo easy to use m8. And so that there is no need for the cards you can "Patch" them or even buy a T-Rex (Dragon) cam.

I would say that you would probably be better with either a 90cm or 1 meter dish too m8.

I use my Techy all the time, and never bother with my Dreambox. I also keep the patches upto date, but also use the T-Rex cam too, lol.

    1) Yes m8 very easy
    2) no when you download a patch it opens all the channels on that package (no need for cams) , there are quite a few open just now, also you can buy offial cards like digialb for around £150 for 12 months this has movie channels sports kids and a 24hour xxx plus a few more
    3) not sure what you mean

    4) The bigger the better 1m should be more than enough

    Hope this helps, Pm sent

Just saw your reply Termy and found out it took me over 7 minutes to write that reply lol

    3) what angles do they need to face?

The dish needs to point towards the equator ie south in the northern hemisphere. all angles are relative to that. If you are just checking where you could stick the dish I'd work on 45 east (of south) to 45 west, will certainly give you enough options to play with. If you can't get those angles (or more) then Astra 2 on 28.2 east and hispasat is on 30 W should be a minimum to aim for.

You can place the dish were ever there is a full clear view south M8, pole mounted or a T and K bracket.

Make sure the mounting pole the dish clamps to is 100% vertical or the arc will be out and you will loose some channels.

I'm reading into this & I am nearly ready to purchase a system. "please reply or pm me as im so excited about this project" me too

I have been trying to find the best place to site my dish, it can be on the front of the house where I can get all of the east satellites, from 0E to anything. Or I have been looking at a pole mounted large dish in the back garden, so I needed to see the elevation of the satellites because neighbouring houses are in the way. I found this site: http://www.satsig.net/ssazelm.htm where you put in your latitude/longitude & the satellite position, then it tells you the elevation that is required. I think I am going to put one in the back garden so I can see some atlantic satellites. For me it's either an 80cm on the front of the house or a 1.2 in the garden (hello neighbours lmao).

Anyway I came across this while doing some background reading & thought the elevation site would be useful.

    That looks great.

I've bought a technomate system off ebay, I'm pointing the front of my house before I put the dish up. I think this is the best thing to do in the short term, because it's a short route for the cable & I'll have scaffolding (free) there. I think it will be about a fortnight before I'm at the install stage. I might just be able to get thor, I'm at 2W.

Next year I'll most likely put a vertical pole in the back garden & move the dish round there. Either that or abouve the roof (I have a chimney, so that should be legal).

I've done a lot of background reading on this, probably more than any other project.
