    Default DVD video production prices

    Hi guys,

What's a fair price for the following:

Filming of a sporting event, around 2 hours total on a semi-professional DV camera like a Canon XM2 or similiar plus editing and knocking up a DVD with menu's and animation, with cover and DVD artwork for around 200 copies??

Anywhere to get quotes or compare prices?

What do you guys think, I could do with some help

    Cheers

If you're doing it mate, the best way to price it up is to work out an hourly charge for each stage. YOU know how long ewach thing takes, and what YOU want to charge for it, so say you said...

Filming, £? an hour or something
Editing £? an hour (or in some instances we charge per minute of footage)
Design of Cover Artwork etc - £? per hour
Duplication - if you're sending it away, get a price from them, if you're doing it yourself, then £x per DVD.

Then just tot it all up and see what you think of the final price. You'll be able to judge roughly if you think they'll go for it, or if it's stupidly over / under priced etc.

Sorry I can't be more help, but you wouldn't wanna use my pricing anyway they'd simply say "HOW FUCKING MUCH!!!"

Hey, I'm a freelance editor/film maker. I'll do my best to give you a rough idea but it' s really a case of how long is a piece of string i'm afraid.
This type of work is rarely charged per hour, it's normally a daily fee.

Filming: It depends how professional you want to go. You could film it yourself with just a home camcorder and save a bit of money or you could hire equipment and a professional team. Rough cost £300 per day for labour and a quick glance at the hire company's rate card that I normally use your looking at £70 a day for a semi pro camera, plus an optional £10 for a tripod and £40 for a basic sound kit. If you need to hire equipment you need insurance to an excess of £1,000,000, the last project I did I think the insurance cost about £200.

Editing: The going rate for an editor is £200 per day plus the hire of equipment (£145 per day at my work.) However, if you want to save cash I will do it for £100 per day all inclusive from home on my kit.

DVD Authoring: All I can go off to give you a rough price is what the post prodction house that i'm working at charges ( I think that's pretty pricey for this service anyway!) £450 per day authoring and £3.80 per disc for 200 DVD copies inc. black and white printing on disc. It might well be worth doing more research on this as i think this price is pretty ridiculous!

Hope this helps. PM me if you need anything else.
