usb problem help needed asap

i got up this morning and my pc was still on every thing working ok i pluged my phone into the usb cabble to charge it and then all my usb 2 sockets have died the 2 usb1.1 sockets still work any help would be good i am just about to start backing things up and do a fresh install unless some one can help before i start the fresh install

Sounds like the power to the USB 2s have died, or the controllers gone.

Can you beg, borrow or steal a USB powered Hub to try, it might work.

Do you have any other USB gadgets to try, even a USB 1 will do (you`ve prolly already done that).

Check in device manager & check if theres an exclamation mark for the USBs.

I`m not really too sure what else to suggest really given what you`ve posted, but I`m sure someone will offer some better advice than mine.

should have explained better i have 4 usb sockets on the back of my pc 2 are 1.1 and 2 are 2 i have 2 sockets on the front that come off the motherboard they are 2 having just had a mess around low power things like usb mouse will work in all sockets but my wireless usb wont work in any same with my cam and usb external hardrive

right i have just found out a old 6gb hard drive and done a fresh install on that and they work fine so its not hardwear ill swop harddrives back any help on what to do to fix the problem

now im confused i have just pluged my hard drive back in and was expecting the usb2 to not work but it is the only thing that i have done is when i changed hard drives the bios recognised the change and i had to save the change but its all back to how it was so im happy again

ok i jumped the gun its not ok my 2nd hard drive is saying its not formated it is its got most of my programs installed on it any help please
