    Help VW MECHANIC NEEDED!!

I have a TDI Pasasat Tiptronic with a little problem i hope!

If traveling slightly uphill when the car changes gear there is a flat spot between the gears, i state the uphill Cu's thats where you notice it the most, i think it happens just before the turbo kicks in, i have noticed the performance isn't as it should be, though its still pretty fast, its like its not using all of its torque and needs to change down a gear, if you feather the pedal so the turbo comes in then back off and then feather it again thats when the flat spot occurs, 1-2 secs later it goes. Ive changed the MAF meter but still the same, any ideas fellas on what to check before i book it in to a robbing dealer!

Thats if you understand what the fcuk I'm on about!!

It's called Turbo Lag ....... and it's a diesel, try www.jabbasport.co.uk who specialise in VW engines...... can give you up to 40% more torque with a chip the dealers will honour as VW have tested it...

    Diesel Custom Rolling Road Remap
    £425 (inc VAT)
    Standard BHP:150
    Jabba BHP: 192 - 206
    Standard Torque: 236
    Jabba Torque: 315 - 376*

With modding a diesel it's the torque values you should be more concerned with rather than the extra HP.

Turbo lag can and does feel different from car to car, not to mention manufacturer from manufacturer, I'd still put money on it being Turbo lag if you've replaced the MAF.

If you're in the London area you can pop it over and we will throw it on diagnostics and take it for a ride to see what the problem is, but webforum diagnostics is a pointless exercise.

    Thanks for the reply zelnik,

I would drop it in but I'm in kidderminster!! its been on a diagnostic machine when it went for a service 2mths ago and nothing showed up, the bloke said he had a look round and could see nothing out of place. The problem started when i had it repaired after hitting a badger http://digital-forums.com/showthread.php?t=241086 also i know what turbo lag feels like and in this case the car bogs down for a sec, you can literally feel yourself leaning forward when it happens, could it be the fuel filter?

Any 1 know anybody in my area who would be willing to have a look at it?

could just be the airflow meter on the way out or the egr valve sticking

just had a thought which is quite unusual for this time of the morning, they have the throttle linked to the tiptronic box as it's "fly by whire", i wonder if the sensor is giving the wrong reading to the throttle from the gear box, hence strange up/down shifts.... ?

You need it connected to a scan tool and then go on test drive while waching live data (with someone else driving), you need to see whats going on at the time of the fault, you want to be looking at boost pressure and airflow and that will help you look in the right place. is boost dropping off?? is boost spiking to high?? thats where you need to look first.
if its got a varible vane turbo the vanes could be starting to stick and causing it to overboost slightly, if it does this it will go into a soft limp mode and the car will pull back.
    something to start with anyway.
    good luck

I hit the badger front passenger side also i ran over the fcuker so it might have hit the exhaust, the maf was new from the dealer, when it went for a service there were no reports on damage to the under-body but then again how many dealers actually check everything? thinking of booking it into another vw dealer just to see if theres a difference in there service.

    Hi there mate

I didnt see where you where from, but if you fancy a trip to near heathrow, my friend was the master technian for Audi. He has left there now as he was so busy with looking after the german taxi's and private jobs, that he has his own garage, and this guy knows his stuff.
    TRUST ME!!!

He has all the Proper VAG tools, and computers and when i had a little prob with my passat TDI sport, he drove it while i held this VAS computer on my lap and he watched all the live data on it.

He has people coming to him from all over the country even up from Leeds etc!!!!!!

Tell me if you want his number, or email me on RichardK1979@Hotmail.com and i will pass on the details etc.

He specialises in VW and Audi's and does some amazing things.

Well that good that he is soon doing mods on engines etc, inc performance chips etc.

speak soon and hope this helps

    Rich

P.S btw, the fault sounds like it could be a ball of dirt poss in the cat blocking it slightly, and could even be an error, until its put onto live data will be hard to say.
