Xbox 360 DVD Drive Comparison

Here are a couple side by side shots of the "Toshiba Samsung Xbox 360 DVD Drive" and the "HL Hitachi Xbox 360 DVD Drive" (here after referred to as Hitachi or Samsung)



Notice the extra notches and holes in the Hitachi tray where the Samsung tray is primarily solid this makes it a relatively easy task to determine which drive you have without opening your console.

Notably the Samsung drive is MUCH quieter, Perhaps we will bust out the decibel meter and try to quantify how much quieter it is, for now we will just say it is quite noticeable.

Samsung Xbox 360 DVD Drive:
The manufacturer of this drive is Toshiba Samsung Data Storage.
The model of the drive is TS-H943



Hitachi Xbox 360 DVD Drive:
The manufacturer of this drive is Hitachi - LG Storage, Inc.
The model number is GDR-3120L

Nice one just need the release of the hacked firmware.

I read somewhere else this wont actually patch the drive with the firmware (if it ever gets released anyway) but instead it can alter the keys of the drives, something that uniquely indetifies the drive to the console. Perhaps allowing for a different drive to be put in the console, one that is patched.

as i read it this tool allows you to extract/insert a key into a firmware file.
it dosnt allow you to read/write to the dvd rom drive.

the application of this tool would be.
connect dvd to pc (using adapter homebrew or purchased or using pwoer from an xobx)
read the dvds firmware (another homebrew app)
extract key from firmware for YOUR drive.

get a hacked firmware use the same app to insert your KEY into the hacked firmware

upload hacked firmware (with your key) to your DVD....

this is going to be a most useffull app
