Caprica - Battlestar Galactica spinoff

Caprica, a spin-off from the smash hit cult series Battlestar Galactica, has been added to the Sci Fi Channel's development slate in the US.

Battlestar Galactica executive producers Ronald D. Moore and David Eick have signed on for the show, which, if eventually picked up, will show life in the Twelve Colonies fifty years before the events of its parent show.

It will tell the story of the creation of the Cylons by following the lives of two families, the Graystones and the Adamas - the latter being the family of William Adama, the commander of Galactica.

"Caprica weaves corporate intrigue, techno-action and sexual politics into television's first science fiction family saga," said Sci Fi in a written statement.

Excellent. It doesn't sound that much on paper....but it's bound to be good if it's BG based.

Spinoff's seem to be the new breed of series these days.

Needs some scope mind. May not work as well as BG but fuck it the guys behind the show have done a bang up job thus far.

They need to concentrate on one show. BSG is good don't get me wrong but I think they are dragging plots out a bit much, nothing REALLY exciting seems to be happening and it's only the last ep that has attempted to do anything other than run, attacked by cylons, run.

By splitting the scriptwriters across two shows will limit their creativity. We've seen it before with the like of Buffy and Angel, SG1 and Atlantis, and the Star Trek franchise - I hope they can pull it off with BSG - we need more quality sci-fi on our screens/internet links

there's been too many emotional story lines in the last series, I want to see space battles and things blowing up etc
