SHAMED MP Mark Oaten yesterday blamed going bald for his affair with a rent boy.
He said his hair loss and pressure at work had led to a mid-life crisis.
Lib Dem Oaten added: "I was turning 40 and I really felt that I was losing my youth.
"The problem was undoubtedly compounded by my dramatic loss of hair in my late 30s.
"This really knocked me for six. I started to look noticeably older." The MP, who quit as Lib Dem home affairs spokesman after details of his seedy sex sessions emerged in January, continued in an article: "Any television appearance would result in a barrage of emails, not about the issues I'd raised but about my lack of hair. "I became more and more obsessed by its disappearance."
He also blamed the culture of lying in Westminster for his affair. "Deceitfulness is the norm as each day we try to withhold information from the press, colleagues and political opponents.
"It's extremely easy to detach yourself from the reality of family life in this party political bubble."
Oaten said after learning about his affair, his wife Belinda had thrown her wedding ring at him and tried to hit him. They are now trying to rebuild their marriage.
Oaten admitted the scandal lost the Lib Dems his local council at last week's elections.
