Caught Downloading Torrents

i wouldnt worry.

the worst your likely to get is a cease and desist order (then worry and be more careful).. and thats only if you share the file (bit unavioudable on bit torrent tho)... tho u never know...

but they prefer to go after the points of distrbution with the big guns rather than the little people in the uk as far as i can see.

the majority of cases where a studio or the mpaa/riaa go after a user its in the US cos thats where their jurisdiction is.. in the uk what ull find is most of them is where the american party involved just sends a notice to the isp as happened to tridion.

tho tbh, common sense also helps.. dont download software or movies from bit torrent for a start. (particularly brand spanking new movies/apps)

If you're sat downloading copyrighted material off a public tracker, with no means of 'protection' as well, then I guess you're a sitting duck.

c'mon lads, think of the numbers.. I remember a while agao there was news that the FBI had some huge list of peodophiles, so huge infact that they didn't have the resouces to deal with them all. (I like to think) there are many more people who download the odd bit of warez, which makes the job even harder for the authorities... safety in numbers innit

i got a 'please stop downloading movies 'email off plus net couple of years ago, it stemmed from whoever released Love Actually (i know, i know) just installed peer guardian and all has been fine since. mainly use the public trackers.

Surely as it's a private tracker the ISP won't be able to access it to see what your downloading, I dunno, it's all gobbledy gook to me lol

doesnt matter if its private... if you managed to join, im sure a film studio would manage just fine.

ok, so how easy is it to get details for tracker? is that just a case of connecting to it? if so.. RUN FOR THE HILLS, WE ALL SITTING DUCKS..

remember the peado/fbi malarkey when if I remember right even our government was given lists of peado's but they just didn't have resources to prosecute everyone. I'd rate peado's worse than filesharers myself..

obviously they dont have the resources to prosecute everyone they find sharing, but the film/music studios have a shit load more money to throw at the piracy situation than at catching peados.

and yes, to get tracker details u only have to have a torrent (they contain the tracker addresses for connecting to the trackers, obviously) and a valid ip address that the tracker recognises to get access.

cat n mouse game innit, how long have torrents been around, and they only just really pressin users now, give it time, some other method will be around and the powers that be will hopefully take another 5 or 6 years to do something.. It's the circle of life... blah blah, lol

most isps hold the account holder responsible for the connection and it doesn't matter who uses the line, unless you have specific logs from say a trojan that show an external source using your line without your knowledge you will still have to take the blame
