Animation software??

hi guys,

my mate's lad has been asking me for advice on a simple (to use) software package that makes animations. he wants to create stuff/scenes using matchstick men and other hand drawn items....any ideas?!?

I don't know if this would help, but there is a animation plugin for Paint Shop Pro. Basically you draw your animation frame by frame and the program animates the whole thing. It can create someting like the Welsh Flag in your Avatar.
I bought a copy of Paint Shop Pro 7 at the time, it came with the free add on, named JASC Animation Shop for animating web graphics. If this is the thing you are looking for?

thanks hogwart but i was looking for something even more simple! i downloaded a free trial of a bit of software a while back that did what the kid needs......only thing is, i can't remember what it was called!

I think Imageready is the best (comes with photoshop), but there is a thing called Microsoft Gif Animator which is really light:
