RANGERS have swooped to sign top Swedish centre back Karl Svensson on a three-year contract.
Karl SvenssonChief Executive Martin Bain and manager Paul Le Guen clinched the deal in Paris today, beating off a number of other European sides who were chasing his signature.
Rangers have paid an undisclosed fee for the 22-year-old who has been with Gothenburg for the past two seasons and was appointed captain last year.
Svensson is rated as one of the best young talents in Europe and is part of Sweden's World Cup squad, who will face England, Trinidad & Tobago and Paraguay in Germany next month.
The powerful and talented defender forced his way into the Swedish squad in January when he made an oustanding debut against Saudi Arabia in a friendly.
Svensson looks like being the ideal partner for Julien Rodriguez in the back line as Le Guen begins to put his own mark on the Rangers side for next season.
He becomes the second major capture by the new manager following the signing of Czech midfielder Libor Sionko from Austria Vienna last week.
