My cousin married into a family of north east walians a few months ago and these people are very much like Glyn. They go through their entire lives having to speak very little english. They go to welsh schools, speak welsh at home and take jobs where their colleagues are all welsh speaking. When they then come to have to speak english socially, although they have the knowledge and the vocabulary, as they're very unused to speaking it they sound slower (even slower than North Walians do in general) and stilted. They often come over as borderline retarded but then when they converse in welsh they're quick and confident and articulate.

I fear Glyn is a retard in both languages though.

I think also, speaking Welsh all the time means that certain mouth shapes/sounds aren't used, so when he speaks English some words are hard to pronounce, even though he knows the correct way to say them (A bit like Orientals/Asians/Iberians trying to speak English)

True. When you combine certain letters in welsh they actually lead to a completely different sound. The alphabets also dipher.
