    Very nice.
I'm guessing there's a light attached to the brush, slow camera exposure and walla?

    Thanks.

The colour was added later in PS. I did a rainbow version as well but opted for the simpler of the two.

Nothing so sophisticated. It was a little maglite with some foil wrapped round it so the opening was as wide as the brush, an idea I "borrowed" from someone else.

The paintbrush never actually moved. I held it stationary and used a remote release to fire the shutter while I waved the torch around a bit.

Changing the colour is very simple when you know how. Would you like a quick rundown ?

Go on, tell us how you did it...smoke and mirrors I bet! As a matter of interest, how long have you been using PS and have you done any courses etc or are you self taught?

How about a positive LSD story? Would you like to see a positive LSD story on the news to hear what's it all about, perhaps? Wouldn't that be interesting just once?

I've been using it about 6 or 7 years now, I think I started on version 5. Initially, like most people I expect, I opened it up, couldn't get anywhere with it, closed it again and went back to something simpler. It wasn't until I bought my first book on it (I didn't realise there were online tutorials at the time) that I started to get somewhere with it. Since then I've just read lots more books and followed lots of online tutorials, never done any courses.

So anyway, here's my crappy tutorial.

    Spoiler:

Open the original image in PS.

    Create a new layer, Layer>New>Layer... or SHIFT+CTRL+N.

    Select the Gradient tool.

Then open the gradient picker and select the Transparent Rainbow gradient.

In the new layer click and drag across to create your gradient.

It should now look something like this.

In the layers palette lower the opacity of the layer to around 60%.

Now for the magic bit, change the layer blending mode from normal to colour. Easy peasy.
