Sony Vaio VGN-TX2HP won't connect to wireless network

Hi guys,

I have recently aquired a new laptop (see title) and it recognises the wireless network connection in the house and even has full signal strength, but it won't connect and thus i cannot get on the internet. My MAC address has been put into the router, but still no joy.

Anyone got any ideas?

Welcome to the forums mate.

Do you employ any firewall software that maybe is prohibiting a data connection? Is WEP a factor in your wireless network and has the Vaio got the correct key/index to access said network?

How do i got about finding that out, the ip and whether its static?
And dchp? Sorry guys i'm a complete loser when it comes to this stuff.
It's really annoying since everyone else in the house has old laptops, and they connected fine

Best bet if you are not sure of the basics is for you to look up the manual for your router on the net, and follow the instructions of how to set it up from scratch

start>run> type "cmd"> hit enter> type "ipconfig /all"

and tell us what the ip is. if the ip is static and it will be set under network settings under tcp/ip.

if its dhcp (dynamic host configuration protocol) the router will assign the ip. but if youve got a static one set then it wont work unless the static one is inside the range of dynamically assigned ip's..

mind you if you know absolutely fuck all, you might not understand any of that, and we cant really help you.

thats yer card model and MAC address.

ip will be like 192.168.x.x last 2 x's being numbers.

yes, you dont have it plugged in? Check yer leads and swap the ethernet cable with a known working one

What lead am i plugging in to what? Im not being funny, but the other computers had wireless just like mine and i'm pretty sure they weren't ever plugged into anything.

Just clicked on the LAN icon in the bottom right hand of the screen. Under the heading system info it says "The frequency band of 2.4GHz Wireless LAN and 5GHz Wireless LAN are not compatible. please switch systems to same frequency in order to connect successfully."

Does this have anything to do with the lack of connection?

Yes, it wont work, they are two different frequencies. It is like trying to recieve tv sound on your car stereo

is that the issue.. is the router using wireless A, and your using a B/G laptop?

thats a bit of a cunt.. lol.. yer pretty much fucked cos A isnt interoperable with G, and i take it your using A so the old lappys can connect?

When i say they are old, i'm speaking relatively. There is a fairly new mac laptop that connects fine with the network. How would i find out whether this is actually the case? I.e. the router using wireless A etc?
