    Default Wasps' nests

Hi all I have two pigging wasps' nests one in the eaves the other about 30 feet up in my loft. Have rung one of these emergency wasp call out firms, £90.00 plus vat (until they get here and then oooh argghhh we'll have to do this and that, price is now £200.00 plus vat). Does anyone have any ifeas where I can get hold of one of these hemet jobbies so I can get rid of the little s**ts myself (the wasps not the blokes). Any useful advice appreciated.

leave it to the professionals mate, if you think you're getting overcharged call somewhere else and get another quote.
Trying to get rid of them yourself with no experience, equiptment or idea is just asking to end up in A&E. If you decide to take them on yourself you might aswell book your ambulance in advance.

    Just read this...

Is there anything I can do to get rid of a wasps' nest?

Individuals react differently to being stung (see 'What if I've been stung') by a wasp and, therefore, we would always advise that a professional Pest Control Officer deal with a nest, for the reasons contained in the information above. If you do elect to treat the nest yourself, it should be carried out early morning, late evening or when wasp activity is at a minimum.

Where can I buy something to kill the wasps?

Most hardware shops and garden centres will sell insecticide sprays and powders but you must take care to follow the manufacturers instructions.

Maybe worth a look in B&Q or somewhere like that?

    I read that here http://www.tameside.gov.uk/tmbc8/pestcontrol/bees.htm

cover it with parafin and set it on fire. if your house catches fire then the fire brigade are free.

covering it with parafin and setting it on fire is an option if its somewhere that isnt in your house, but you need the pros.

Hmmmm some interesting replies, council will not come within a hundred miles because Ssssssshhhhhh there is some asbestos nearby. will away to bed for a short while to see if anyone else has other suggestions. Just been looking a full piece beekepers suit only costs £79.00 delivered.

We blocked off an unneccessary duct years ago. A couple of years later, wasps took over the leftover duct, it was mad, we found them occasionally coming through minute gaps between walls and floors/ceilings.

I was well shocked when my mum had the guts to seal the outside of the duct with silicone sealant. A few poked a tiny hole through, which i then sealed up, and that was the end of it luckily enough.

We tried the local council, but they wanted (can't remember how much but) a fair bit more than £45.

Spinelless babes, you just gotta leave it to the professionals!

It might cost you a bit more money but at least it will get rid of it and imagine how much of a freaking twat you are gonna look in that beekeepers suit!

Try your local angling club mate, they'll probably do the deed for free !
(they use the larvae for bait)

Get a can of the expanding foam, squirt it into the nest, wait a while then knock it into a bin liner and burn it.

stick about 6 jumpers on.. get some latex gloves then put gardening gloves on top. 4 pairs of trousers. get a cowboy hat and pull some mesh over it and tuck it into ur jumpers. put a scarf over this. pick up the nest.. drop it into 3 bin liners over each other or a potato sack. get an oil drum. drop the fucker in it. cover it with petrol. set the fuckers alight. my dad did this a few times in america with hornets/wasps.

there will be some rogue wasps but as long as you get the queen they won't reappear.

    alternatively you can just pay!

My missus's Dad just covers the nest with a bag, then yanks of the nest and submerges them in water to drown them. He never made any precautions before hand. It was like him picking up dog shit.
He's passed away now and i'm damned that i'm going into my loft to remove the nest i've got up there. Apparentely deal with the nest at night as they should all be in the nest then. The last thing you want is rogue wasps coming in as you are doing the deed. Apparentely they release a chemical into the air when they die which causes others around to go mad. I've got a broken hand at the mo so if you deal with yours, feel welcome to do mine!

Puff some of that powder in the nest for a few days on the trot then wait another day or two and cut the nest down with a knife straight into a cardboard box or bin liner around the nest before U cut it to minimise escape.
Wrap yourself well tho lol and wear bike helmet and scarf or a hat and a net curtain or some thing while your doing it.

Id do it yourself and youd have a free bee keepers suit which would be useful for future fancy dress partys. How hard can it be to kill a few wasps?

I see a new post in the Legal fourm coming

Dear Legal Beagle, Fireblade said kill the wasps myself, "How hard can it be to kill a few wasps" he said.
Now I've ended end with gonads the size of melons and look similar to the elephant man.

Can I take some legal action out on him please.

    Thanks,

    Spinelless.

Coincidentally, we've (me and the missus) have just got a wasps nest in a wall cavity underneath our bloody bedroom window.

My next door neighbour had the council out at the weekend and he said it cost him £50 odd quid for 5 mins work and I laughed. Lo and behold haven't the fookers moved into my house.

Now I've got to get the council out!

You can get some spray that will go about 5 metres or summat as a stream so you can aim well. Spray onto the nest at night when they all inside, give it a good soaking & hey presto jobs a good un. They all die in the nest. Fairly safe if done at night. I got rid of 3 last summer, 2 in the ground one in a shed.
