Can not edit Word Document...

I have just received a Word document, and I can not edit it. I have checked the properties tab of the file, and it is listed as an 'Archive' and I can not change this.

Anyone got any ideas how I can change this?

I also will not let me select any of the text, or copy, paste etc...

Can you do anything in Open Office? Or can you view it using Word Viewer and copy the text out using that? Archive shouldn't mean uneditable.

Basically it is a quote from Dell....

I open it in MS Word, can view it fine, but all the edit options are grey'd out and I can not select any of the text.

I have saved it to my machine, then checked the document properties, but they all seem normal..?

They have probably used Tools --> Protect Document and made it unfriggable in there mate. never done it myself but have received the odd doc that has been protected though not for some time. Miserable cunts.

Under the tools menu is there a "protect document" option?

If so there should also be a "editing restrictions" box which you can change

I have clicked the unprotect, but now it is passworded

Any further suggestions to crack it?

Passware should be your friend sir. Have a root on here. The only bad thing is with it being a brute force tyoe thingy it can take a while. It is defo on the Newsgroups.
