Samsungs aren't that good at all

Flashed my first Samsung today and was very suprised that it recognised the disc straight away, it was a good sign in fact it booted all my media, Datawrite Extreme's, Verbatim, Ritek Extreme.

So it's better than Hitachi on those points.

Where it falls down though is the loading times...

Ergo the Samsung seems to be much much slower at reading discs, although the media compatability is better the reading speed sucks ass. Before anyone compares their other games it must be mention I also tried out the title loading of Hitman, which was the same on both drives however the intervening variable here is that the loading bar may indicate data unpacking rather than disc reading.

It would be interesting for others to post their comparisons because many on here have been screaming SAMSUNG SAMSUNG when in reality it seems bad advice.

yeah ive notecied the same thing as i have both a samsung and hitachi to test with, one of the most noticable games is burnout revenge, the fmv skips on all 8 samsungs i have tested, but with 3 hitachis i tested the fmv doesnt skip and the game loading is much better.

if the issue with the dodgy media compatiblty and loading is worked out on the hitachi then it is definatly a better drive, they also use the same laser units which is interesting.

I noticed this immediately on my Samsung as well. Apparently burning at 1x helps a bit, to the point that FMV's don't skip, but still longer loads then usual. Hopefully we may see an update in the firmware?

i have found the opposite

first of all SAMSUNG boots the game about 20 secs faster than Hitachi in the first place no matter what disc you use

and the game read speeds are about 50% faster on Samsung than Hitachi

so in a nutshell Rap, would you say that the RiDisc (from you) and the Pioneer 111D (also from you) are a winning combo on the Samsung and Hitachi alike? If so, I'm onto a winner. My discs are here (thank you for a fast delivery), just waiting for my 110D! I'm sure the speed thing will get to me eventually, but so long as they work I'm not a*sed.

As i said in another thread,try moto gp6 in samsung and you will pull your hair out waiting,tried using verbatim and traxdata,both boot and load quick untill you want to race.

Mate has hitachi and loads in ten seconds in moto gp6 but on verbs.

Can live with this as most other games load pretty quick but would like to know why sammy takes longer on gp6.

Maybe i got a rogue drive?

Hitachi's play discs like they are originals with regards to speed, I've done my extensive tests too. The only drawback is the slower recognition of the disc.

You need consistency, something which the Samsung doesn't give.

Well my Sammy boots everything first time .... Loading times are not an issue for me ... Also while talking about Moto GP 06 I have the retail version and note at times whilst in live the loading time is long anyway and like somebody said pay £40-£50 or wait 30 secs ..

I cant believe how well my sammy plays everything .. I am modding my brother-in-laws H-Drive over weekend, so will see the differences between the two ...

One other thing I only use DL Verbs and my Pioneer 111 burner, burn with clone-cd at max speed (about 16mins) and nothing has failed ....

So each to there own ...

My samsung boots first time, with no flicking of switches etc, and also there is no fmv skipping...as of yet.
