Part-time sole trader business

I'm looking to start a small business (web orrientated) while still working a full time job.

Which helped me with some points but still would like some advice.

What exactly do I legally have to do to set-up a business as a sole trader?

Well, nothing really - just open the doors and away you go.

Only real considerations you need to make are... if you're looking at turning over more than 58k a year, you need to be VAT registered (phone the inland revenue)... and secondly your self employed earnings will be classed as secondary income. You need to declare it on your tax return (naturally) and you'll pay a much higher tax bracket on it too, so bear in mind if the extra funds are going to be worth it.

As you're not doing business actually on your premises you don't need to worry about things like insurance, or informing your local council etc so you should be okay.

you are better off buying a website then using it as a pointer to other companies. eg: google pay you for every search done thru your site. i am well into poker and am an affiliate of around 25 sites. every person who joins thru my site gets me a earner. i gennerally make £4 per person who joins these sites. i know its not much but it seriously mounts up and when you get your payments every month for not much work its great. do a search in google. type web affiliates and you will find lots of different companies that will pay you to point people to their sites. hope this helps.
