    Help Cisco CCNA course costs

I had a bloke round today from a company called Skills Train as I am interested in training to become a network engineer.

It was for a Cisco CCNA course over 2 years. When I asked what it cost I was some what shocked, £2,700, £75 per month over 3 years.

Is this what these things cost or is this company just over pricing slightly?
I was expecting it to be something £500 maybe, but not £2,700!

I did mention that I'm unemployed and there must be a government thing for people like me but he said there isn't, is that right?

    Any help would be appreciated.

    Many thanks in advance

Thanks for the replies, looks like I won't be doing it then cos I can't afford that kind of money. I dunno about the 6 week crash course you mention sanj, I don't think it can be done in that time, although £400 is better than £2,700 any day.

I'll do some more research and see if I can find any help with the costs.

I did a similar course with same company m8,and TBH its a waste of money. You are best off begging borrowing or stealing the books of someone and doing it yourself.Im sure there will be files kicking about on the net with stuff on and buy/borrow books and then take the exam yourself as even with skills train you have to book your own exam and pay for it

Thankyou, very helpful, that they didn't tell me. I'll have a search around and see what I can find.

You wouldn't happen to know what the exam costs would you?

EDIT: Just found the exam sheet with questions and answers lol

    Bloody hell!

My Uni offers it as a free choice module. And I dont have to pay a thing to do it extra. I've just finished the first year, Sem 1 and 2. Was solid, but def gonna do 3 and 4 next year.

Definately get the books as they are a great help.

    Good luck.

I find it really difficult to learn anything from books. There's always that tendency for my attention to drift elsewhere. I managed to acquire the full Learnkey CCNA course and find it much better.

The American Cisco dude with the little beard just talks you through it all. I find it actually captures my attention and I actually find myself spending a good few hours without really realising it. That's something that a book could never achieve for me.

I've also heard that CBT Nuggets is good too and there's plenty of learning aids like Testking and Transcender to test what you know.

Pretty much all of it is "obtainable".

Dunno if its the same thing but with the book you get a CD with videos etc, which is quite helpful. Plus if you sign up to CISCO Net Academy you get their online stuff which is also cool.

I know what you mean though, reading from the book, there can be quite a lot of distractions ... just gives u somet to read when you're not at a computer desk though I suppose.

I`ve also had the Skillstrain guy round today as it happens!
I got stung doing an MCSE a few years back when after the first week of me starting AMRAF went into administration and took my £3800 with them, bastards!

Anyway, looking at Skillstrain A+, N+, MCSE route £3700 (apparently) including:

    1) Guaranteed job or your money back (yes, in writing)
    2) If you fail an exam, as long as you did what was required, they will pay for you to resit (no cost to you)
    3) You have to book and pay for your own exams, but you can send the receipt to them and they re-imburse you. (Course fees are included in the £3700)
    4) They finance it all and you pay back monthly (£50 enrollment upfront)

I`ve been reading around and there are a few complaints about sneidigger (sp?) who they are linked with in some way, but overall it all sounds pretty damn good - although after having my fingers burnt last time...I dunno.

    Anyone else got any comments?
Also check out www.certforums.co.uk - loads of info on qualifications and reviews of Skillstrain and others...

It depends, tbh CCNA is only the associates course I think? You'll wanna do CCNP which is the professional course, only its much more difficult and I think you have to do the CCNA before u can do CCNP anyways?

But in saying that, my tutor was telling me that they had a job going at our Uni for a network admin, but they had to have CCNP or equivalent. Job was going with a salary of £30k and he was saying how there was no applicants as people would want more then 30k lmao. I thought he was joking but he werent lmao.

I'd go with a CISCO course, its difficult but its a good qualification. You've got 12 year old yanks doing Microsoft qualifications nowadays.

Info Re: Cisco CCNA course costs

hi all not read all the posts but i started a hnc in computers 5 years ago and it was a 2 year course part time and it included a cisco ccna int it and the whole hnc was a couple of grand
you did the course over the internet directly with cisco i should think you can do it direct with them for a fee
it is multiple choice and all multiple choice questions you would expect to have are in theire books
handy qulification to have but i think you have to renew them every 2 years or so.
