your best off getting in touch with tomtom but if hes that much of a nobhead to plug a 12volt adaptor into it then he might find it usefull to learn is ways by buying a brand new one

im sure he wont plug a 12volt adaptor in then

well i cant email them, after faffin about even finding the email them bit, you then have to register before you can even ask a question, then when you finally get there it asks for a fuckin repair number, how can you fuckin have a repair number if your unit has only just broke FFS.

    oh well

    cheers anyway

There is a known common fault with some tom tom car chargers which has caused the same kind of problems with the Tomtom go (overvoltage). As far as I know, it completely knackers the tom tom and there no easy fix.
However, I would personally contact TT support and tell them that you were just using it in the car and plugged it into the tomtom charger and it went bang! If you are lucky they will replace it.

You can get loads of info at the TT forums here..

Look under the unit close to the 'eject' button, you'll find a small hole with RESET written next to it & an arrow. Use a paperclip to push into the hole.

    Freaky,
Just to let you know, mine stopped powering up, green light would come on with mains connected but still wouldnt power up.
Read somewhere else that this is a common problem if you use the 12volt car adaptor alot as it doesnt have a voltage regulator(?) and can fry the battery(not sure if this is true or not) anyway contacted tomtom and they are sending me a replacement unit as it is still in warranty....totally painless and no questions asked.
When you contact them by phone they tell you to do the reset thing if that doesnt work they tell you to return it via their web site.
Just contact them on their web site telling them that customer services has told you to return it.
If your mates tomtom is still in warranty they'll send him a replacement f.o.c if not they will tell you how much to repair.

yeah the power light still comes on m8 but it wont power up, ive told him to do the reset thing so i dunno if its worked or not yet till tommorow.

he did contact tom tom who said just send it back and they will repair or replace it, but he bought it second hand so its well out of warrenty, they didnt tell him how much to repair tho as i dont think he told em about it being out of warrenty

he only paid £50 for it anyway

thanks for the help m8, and everyone else
