Eclipse cap Usenet at 2MB

Well, woke up today to see that my downloads were coming down at 2Mb solid. Mailed tech support and they said they have now altered their FUP to limit Usenet to 2MB max. Fantastic, bye-bye 850KBb's...

Choice of the right ISP is getting shorter by each passing week.

I was thinking about going with Eclipse,but i dont use Usenet. Do you know if the same thing has been done with b*ttorrent? I know they have a 6pm to 12pm capping.

just a thought does changing the port from 119 to any of the other ports that your news provider might use get round the problem?

newshosting provides 6 or 7 ports you can connect to for downloading

Eclispe have just introduced what appears to be differentiated services. Depending on how much you pay determines your priority on available bandwidth

To fill you in with more detail:

This week Eclipse decided to throttle all NNTP (usenet) traffic between the hours of 8am - 1am to 2MB.

So that means from 1am to 8am you should be 'unthrottled', ie full speed.

Unsure about P2P as I don't use it, wouldn't be suprised though.

Usenet ports have been blocked altogether. I tried all the ones from Newshosting when this first happened.

I have the 'Evolution 2' package, which is classed as 'unlimited'.
Apparently all of the Evolution packages are being throttled.

I'm going to switch to someone else I think - I can't put up with 235kb/s when I can actually pull 855kb/s.

How can you have something that is unlimited, when it's throttled - Eclispe used to be a really good ISP now there going down hill !!!!

I've just switched to these from pipex same service but �10 a month cheaper. The package I signed was unlimited for �24.99 pmth. How can they now get away with this after advertising at a unlimted service?

eclipse are putting max download limits on everything from p2p to ftp!. im on 8mb max service from them unlimited top package.

from my ftp i only get 57k download speed at any time. im currently trying to get eclipse to resolve this as i think it takes the piss.

they used to be great when they had the flex service - top speed all the time. but now they are just like any other isp.

Are Eclipse making these annoucements? - If so where - I can't see anything about it on their website. Guess I'm lucky in a way cos i've only got a 1Meg line so it runs flat out regardless of any capping.

No, they are not. When I questioned them about any announcements this what they said :

buhaha! ah well

im capable of getting 6mb but tbh im quite happy with this arrangement for �14.99 per month dont download an awful lot but what i do get i just schedule for midnight and 2mb at all other times aint bad.
they say its unlimited off peak and well ya cant argue that it aint its just a bit slower, still unlimited
