    Hi all,

I want to send some money, but i dont want to stick it in the persons bank account, so i was wondering if i pay by credit card, ring them up and pay to the person, am i convered against the money ive sent?

I dont use paypal - dont get me started there!

Not sure on these things, and to be honest i want to safeguard my self.

    Advice is much apprechiated!

How do you propose the person to be able to accept a credit card payment?

    options are
    paypal credit card is ok
    cheque
    direct funds transfer
    postal orders
    bank draft
post cash through the post (not recomended)

Why do you have a reservation about the funds in to the bank account?

i dont fancy sending £1200 or £600 or whatever to someone i dont know.

He cant meet me due to work commitments, as the guy works long shifts.

So he said with a credit card im insured, what i want to do is ring my card up or go to the bank and say i want to transfer so much from my credit card to his account

can i do this, and will i be insured agaisnt loss/theft etc

also if i was to get scammed i cant get my money back as i would have placed the money in to his account from mine

What are you buying? If it sounds dodgy, I would steer well clear, the bloke must not work at some point during the week, saying he cant meet you because of work is a lame excuse imho, ask him if you can meet him at his work during his break

ive tried it all, but he seems honest,
i will stay well clear if i cant pay by credit card - which is what im trying to find out, as i said all i want to do is ring up the bank pay using my card direct to his account (obs will take few days to clear) then if things dont turn up, i can get my money back..

its for a vertu ascent phone - a quick sale, so i offered him £1200 and he accepted.

Maybe he just doesn't want to meet the person he's selling to. When I sell on ebay people sometimes want to meet me, I don't want to meet them though.

What they're going to tell you to do is a cash advance... which will shaft you no end, and you'll have no come back. Basically, take the cash off your cad, plus an instant % charge (normally 10% but some are less) plus you start paying interest from the INSTANT you take the cash out.

As already said - avoid like the fucking plague.

On a side note, 1200 for a fucking PHONE - don't take the piss. The only way I'd pay that money, is if it was a BT phone, and it was still plugged into the wall of the fucking house that came with it.

    Hey

In a word NO, you cannot get insurance for this type of transaction, simply because as far as the banks are concerned, your sending cash, your not actually paying for an item.

I'll probably see you in the Legal Section shortly, asking is there a way to get your money back...

As has been said by a few above, I would stay well clear, this has 'scam' written all over it.

    Hey

It never ceases to amaze me how someones 'greed' to make a few pounds profit overtakes all measure of commonsense.

I'll wait for your post in the Legal Section, should be interesting.

Its not really a phone that is being bought, these phone are a status symbol for people with more money than sense. The company is part of nokia, the phones are made of leather, some metal stronger that titanium ans surgical grade steel, the buttons use jewelled ruby bearings and the face is unsctatchable due to the saphire crystal used for the screen 2nd hardest to diamond and the part everyone likes is that you get a years subscription to a concierge service so if you want somthing you phone them with a single button press ont he side and they sort it out for you.

The ascent is the cheap version of the range they will make them encrusted with diamonds, made from white or yellow gold and even one from platinum with a solitaire diamond in there. the asent costs eiter $4900 or $5700 for the special editionds that they do.

Personally I will stick to my spv and phone the hotel or car rental place myself saving a fortune. the phone does look smart back to the old school look.

The guy sounds to susspect not wanting to meet especially over a large sum of money walk away

LE can I just confirm that all those telling the guy not to go ahead with this transaction are immune from legal action if he goes ahead and then find it was a con then decided to take action against us?

You could use an escrow service - you give them the money he gives you the phone and when it is accepted he gets the money

Steer clear, if he hasn't got time to meet you then he can't have time to post it!
You could say to him 'meet me or the deals off' and see what he says.

You've probably just saved yourself a LOT of hassle and money mate.

Cheers LJ for the low down on the phone - still sounds a bit OTT to me.
