Would they prefer it if the police and the authories just sat back and said "oh fuck it, we dont want to be a nuisance and make all these nice people move their fat arses, lets just stop all the security checks and let everyone take whatever they like on"

The precautions being taken by the police are for the good of the public, they arent going through all this just for shits and giggles and the sooner the dumb fuckers bitching about their holidays recognise this, the better.

I'll remind you of this rant when you spend 2 1/2 hours getting through check-in in Standstead, miss your connection at Schipol and have to spend 37 hours in said airport waiting for some fuckwit from Cathay Pacific to tell you that they found you a plane but it lands 40 odd miles from your original destination, arrives at 5am and you have to pick up the tab for the taxi....

Of course I would, but I certainly wouldn't go to the police station each and every day to let them know that there isn't a person trying to kill me, or that there might be a person trying to kill me but I just don't know about it yet, then demand an armed escort "just to be on the safe side"...

If our security is so lapse why is there only a handfull of these incidents recorded (9/11 and Lockerbie being the obvious ones here). They say a pound of prevention is worth an ounce of cure, but how's about 7 kilotonnes of prevention??? They already removed all waste bins from train stations so that terrorists can't drop bombs in there, then they wonder why the stations are littered. The Arndale Centre was destroyed by such a bomb (among other numerous places) these attacks have killed more people in the UK and Ireland than plane hijackings, so why not more bomb squads outside shopping centres... In fact, why not just search everybody on the street, afterall, you never know.....

I agree they are going about it stupidly, but that may be the point - scare the terrorists into thinking, shit i'm not doing this today, not going to get away with it.

I remember about 10 years ago, stop and search was ridiculous round these ways - till there was that whole racism stuff. I remember being stopped and searched on my own road, I was just casually walking, only mistake was to eyeball the copper driving past, suddenly there had been reports of someone matching my description running round my road with a knife!

I told them to get on with it quick, eliminate me, and find the nutter. They searched me, asked why I had red and blue rizla but no weed, I told them I was just on the way to pick up, and they let me go.

Only on my way i realised they had no blue lights on. They might need probable cause, but this can be made up for a laugh, every time it used to be persons matching your desciption seen breaking into cars / robbing houses / in possession of weapons, all sorts of bollox.
