Default Its all gone wrong now!! P2P whats good for what

Ok, gave Limewire, Mopheous and Bearshare a go.

During installation (not sure what one) i noticed a few of my icons had changed in terms of the Hard Drives i have shared. Although upon checking non of these were shared in the above applications, they all pointed to the same and one location for shared and downlaods (as i did this on set up)

Now Opera is crashing and I have noticed a setup. exe and an Autorun .ini file in every folder within these shared drives. I cannot delete it. THe .exe icon is simirlare to that of the icon change for the shared drives.

All these prgrammes are now uninstalled and the PC is mega slow.

AVG is finding nothign wrong so to are all online scans.

I have not yet downlaoded anything since i got back fomr holiday and (yesterday) and set these up.

Any idea on whats gone wrong?

    Cheers....Q

IN CONJUNCTION WITH THE BELOW - what P2P is generaqlly good for what in your opion and use, music, tv, etc..

I only use (so far) eMule. I used to use a LONG time ago, Kazza. The other day i ran into a problem that another P2P might be able to have secured for me.

I wanted a track, eMule had many sources but was not starting any downlaod, I remember Kazza being quite good for small instant items but also remember it having ALOT of spyware etc. Also used Bittorrent, but for a one of drunken night of prove me right or wrong, not practicle it seems for small files.

Just as a general rule i was woundering what people used for what really and the problems you may have as well.

In the end I found the CD but after a good two hours.

Rarely use any downaloding apps, and because of this I do not (until recently) need somethign that will act quickly.

It has been a LONG time sice i even considered using any apps again, so suggestions and comments welcome.

    Cheers.....Q

Search Google for Frostwire, thats good for single mp3s. I personally use bittorrent for downloading other things such as vids and other large files. Get utorrent to download torrents. You can find the torrents themselves on various sites. Try a public server first like torrentz or torrentspy then if your gonna be downloading more, look for a private tracker. You'll find em if you search google.

Limewire Pro if you want a single music track once every so often.

    Single mp3s - Limewire (pro)
    Full CDs - Bit Torrent
Movies - forget it, usenet kicks p2p all over the place here. I know, we're talking about p2p, but perhaps consider usenet for movies/games/large apps

Have you run spyware checkers, adbot and/or spybot? At least one of those apps used to have spyware in it I know.

Yes, used Spybot and adaware plus run CCleaner. All found something but even when cleared it comes back. So there is an underlining file somwhere.

Also done this in Safe mode!

    So in total

I can run appilcations and clear a majority of it.
In safe mode i can remove the remainder - but shoose to remove FRESH

But comes back within 30 min's (often shorter!)

    Any other sugestions,,

    Cheers.....Q

Mopheous messed about with one of my PC's all have adware in thats how they pay for themselves, if the adware removers don't do remove them, when you run them write down the location and name of the file and delete the file manually then run regedit and search for the file and delete every occurrence of it in the registry file there could be loads so make sure you go all the way through it. it may still return if you can't find the file or program thats causing the problem, also look through the running processes and see if there's anything there you don't think should be this can be hard as sometimes you just have to guess as they can be tricky what they call it(but what your looking for is something that is using your processor) you can kill the process but better to kill the process tree by right clicking on the process, also take not of the process file and you may have to delete it and remove it from the registry too.

I say for most newbies to downloading stick with bit torrent and use trusted sites eg torrentspy which people give comments about the torrents.

STAY AWAY from programs like kaaza and limewire if you don't know how to search for downloads if you don't you will end up with spyware and viruses all over your computer

personally i use azureus because for a couple of years now it as been the best bt client available it's just recently utorrent as game along and people have been defeating because of memory issues. Personally i don't like utorrent of course that is only my opinion.

    hope this helps

Torrents is the way to go. Limewire and the rest are shite, too many fake files and dodgy files.
