I had similar with office 2007, in that it would not work properly with exchange, so I un-installed it, and could not get loads of programs to run correctly after that, including office 2003, and I ended up doing a reload.
Stick with firefox instead of ie, there is nothing on ie7 that firefox has not been doing for ages.....

    Info Re: ie7 beta

It would appear a horrible little program comes with ie7 called mdm.exe which insists on debugging everything causing program lock removed via task manager
having removed now back to normal & excluded ie all

another issue I have had with IE7 is that I installed it when comp was part of a domain using a domain account, now that network doesnt exist it wouldnt let me remove it it was" just saying log on as the user who installed it" which I couldnt do.

To be honest, I have found IE7 pretty good up until now.

yeah its not bad except for
    a. the amount of resources is uses.
    b. how overly hooked into the operating system it is.
    c. the "phishing" filter seems to be always on even when you turn it off. (slows down web page loading time).
    d. when it goes wrong it goes wrong big time.
