    Default Connect to Sky Broadband

Has anyone actually been connected yet, I have had a confirmation email that said they would be in touch early August, but heard nothing since. Problem is my current account ends in 2 weeks (Bulldog) and if they don't get thier fingers out then I'll be without an ISP for god knows how long.
    Any info available ?

    Cheers.

a few people on digitalspy are connected, it also sounds like the router firmware is custom and you can't do much with it which I wouldn't like, not sure if you can use other routers apart from the supplied one

I'm waiting for them to offer me Sky BB connect (£17 PM) until I can get the full max package which they reckon will be the end of the year. Phoned them, just got to wait for an email now.

Does anyone know how long it takes to switch providers, is it like a mobile provider transfer i.e same day?

    Cheers.

I want to go with sky because it will cost me £10 and not £28 for the same service. I'm not a huge downloader and the upload speeds are the same so £17 saving a month is something not to be sniffed at.

Got through this morning, should be on within 10 days.

I asked the lady regarding the router as I have a very good 'Ozenda' one. She said I would have to use Skys However I will query this when I get it and need to connect.

Does anyone know which routers they are supplying?

    *Edit*

Looks possibly like a Netgear or 3Com
    http://digital-lifestyles.info/displ...bution&id=3493

Bit of a git as I will have to set up my hositng etc... on it al again However I should get a new IP address which is something I need!

    Netgear DG834T infact

If you go over to skyuser.co.uk there is a post on there about reflashing the router to get the username and password, after which u should be able to use any router

it is against SKY's terms and conditions though

@Goldberg, what email address did u get you MAC off F2S on as i still am having no joy

My broadband with Sky was activated last night, from my perspective very good service so far, applied on line, got the email with the code a fortnight later, then got the kit with in two days, then got activation letter (bit arse about face that though) Said I'd be activated on the 12th, and I was.

Now just to monitor the speed, went for the upto 16mb Max package, bargain compared to NTHells service, so far had a top speed of 8.5 and a low end of 4, so not 16 but it was an evening I guess and I have no idea where the local exchange is.

But for a tenner I'm happy so far, no complaints with the kit, doesn't look as robust as my netgear kit but that was cable and not ADSL so I can't use it anyway, so for a free bundled router I'm happy.

I emailed broadbandadmin@freedom2surf.net with 'MAC Request' in the title.
Basically told them I was going to Sky in the email and give them the rest of the info they would need from me, Address, Tel No, Username etc...... Just make sure you use the email address linked to the account. Again I got a response within the hour.

Chances are your area might not get 16mb. My top speed (until I move) is 5mb... Some people are complaining on SkyUser about poor connections. What you have to consider when you move to ADSL is that the provider will test your line for 2 weeks after connection to get the most stable speed.

Can I ask, people always talk about flashing the routers? Is this to get faster speeds?
