    Default Spending beyond your means.

2nd month in the row I'm £800 quid into my overdraft and I am fucking pissed off with myself. The final month of my first year at University really fucked me over (having to buy all my own "stuff" for my design exhibition) that I got a bit carried away and my account is currently a shambles.

It's going to take at least two months to try and sort this shit out, yet I still need to eat and pay the bills.

    Oh well.

I've been there too dear, I know the pain of it. I'm sure you are doing everything possible to rein yourself in, what worked for me was writing down everything I spent, and I mean everything, and then tried to justify what I'd bought.
Me and my fella spit our dummies out so we won't be coming back. ever. boo hoo.

This is a techy / hackers forum not a fu**ing mothers meeting so - peace out.

never been to uni, but i know some of the costs of being a student and what some stuff costs.

as advised write it all down then justify why you have bought it and go from there.

It's my own fault, i just got carried away and spunked most of it. I will speak to the bank on Monday, explain my situation (with the promise of more student cash in september) and see what they say. If they give me shit, I will just sign up with Natwest at the university.

I should have got myself a student account in the first place.

    Silly me.

£800 into your overdraft and worrying?! I really wouldn't worry about it mate. Out of about 8 people i knew from Uni a couple of years back, you would be the best off. £800 overdraft is sod all for a student. You are actually doing well. They don't give you a £1500 interest free overdraft for nothing you know!

Finance-wise I breezed through my 3 years at Uni. I had a bar job during the evenings/weekends and through that I would pick up plenty on dodgy camcorders, laptops, car stereos etc.. which I would then flog in the local papers and Ebay.

I had a part time job on 10k a year for 2 days a week when I was at Uni, all tax free as I was a student, and paid weekly - living the life of reilly I was lol - HOWEVER - that's not what he wanted to hear...

Everyone's been there mate, and like suggested, make 2 meals, and make actual MEALS, not just snacks and shit. Doesn't take much to rustle up summink like a lasagne or spag bol, and it'll keep for 2 days maybe 3 etc - do that for a month or so and you should see your spending reduce drastically. Also, nows a good time to start drinking special brew in the house on your own lol - 5 quid for 4 and you'll more than likely be on your arse ergo saving huge drinkey poos bills lol.

You'll get through it mate, it's just a blip

most people at uni seemed to be £2000k in debt, had extra hardship grants/loans and maxed out their student loan.

if someone came up to us and said they were £800 in debt we'd probably laugh and wish we were in the same position.

your only mistake was to not get the student account, but is it too late to get one? I'm sure they'll be fighting over a 2nd year student. Or better yet, go and say you're probably repeating the first year becuase you fucked it, they may think 'ahh perfect'.

Check out the [GOOGLE]Access to Learning Fund (alf)[/GOOGLE] schemes, your uni should do one. You have to give a statement why you're out of pocket. Just make it simple, didn't appreciate how much things cost, had to pay for a end of year show, borrowed money here and there to pay rent, bills and rent in arrears. Do this and they'll add about £500 to your student loan but also give you up to £2500 in installments for that year (including paying for summer bills if you can prove you can't go home for any reason (play the independant card)).
    I'm new to this

Maybe he's trying to emulate the old "Why my PSP is now a brick" thread by dragging it up for no other reason than just because.....

Bloody students I hate them all!
Writeing cheques for a chips and gravy in the chippy and their flipping chirpy optimism. You will be in 10 grand debt at the end of your course no doubt then its no problem you can pay it off over the next 25 years as Mcdonalds pays quite well now i belive!
