    Help Help!!! Holiday packing advice needed!

    I am flying to the canaries on wednesday and need some advice. Does anyone know if you can pack presurized containers (hairspray, shave gel etc) in your suitcase in the hold? I have always packed this sort of thing in my hand luggage, but obviously I can't now with the increased security. Someboby told me a couple of years ago that you shouldn't pack presurized containers in the hold as they could explode, does anyone know if this is true??!!

    Taken from the Blackpool Airport site, but no less relevant:

    Hand Luggage - What Not To Pack

    Hand Luggage - New Security Measures - August 06

    Please note new rules have been put in place regarding hand luggage at all UK airports. Passengers are requested to be patient while these additional security measures are in place, allow extra time for their journey and be prepared for possible delays.

    Passengers are now allowed to carry ONE item of hand baggage through the airport security search point. The cabin bag should be no bigger than 45cm wide x 35cm long x 16cm deep/high (17.7" wide 13.7" long 6.2" deep/high), including wheels, handles, side pockets - equivalent to a small laptop bag or rucksack.

    The following items are prohibited from hand (cabin) baggage:

    * Any cosmetics
    * Any toiletries, including toothpaste, hair gel, lotions, perfume, deodorant, shaving foam, aerosols, etc
    * Any liquids, any drinks (The definition of liquids includes gels, pastes, lotions, liquid/solid mixtures (excluding lipstick) and the contents of pressurised containers, e.g. toothpaste, hair gel, drinks, soups, syrups, perfume, deodorant, shaving foam, aerosols, gel pens, gel bras etc.)
    * Any sharp objects

    The following liquids are allowed:

    * Essential medicines in liquid form sufficient and essential for the flight (e.g. diabetic kit), as long as verified as authentic.
    * Baby milk and liquid baby food sufficient and essential for the flight, (contents of each bottle or jar must be tasted by the accompanying passenger).

    Before security: all shops and catering outlets are open to all passengers. Hand baggage is now allowed BUT any liquids and gels must be packed into your hold luggage for check-in. Any other purchases must fit into your hand baggage.

    Once through security: all shops and catering outlets are open to all passengers. Passengers can take all items purchased in the departures lounge into the aircraft cabin, unless you are travelling to the USA. All passengers boarding flights to the USA are not permitted to take any liquid or gel items into the aircraft cabin.

    Take only one piece of hand luggage and make sure that your hand luggage does not contain:

    Scissors Razor blades
    Knives with blades of any length Household cutlery
    Tweezers Hypodermic needles (unless required for medical reasons)
    Tools Toy/replica guns (metal or plastic) Catapults
    Knitting needles Sporting bats
    Billiard, snooker or pool cues Darts

    If items are confiscated at security control you will not be compensated and, with the exception of unusual circumstances, the confiscated items will not be returned.

    You should always check the exact hand luggage allowance with your airline prior to packing. A general guide is that hand baggage should be a maximum weight of between 5 & 7 kilos, and dimensions should not exceed height 450mm x width 350mm x depth 200mm. Most airlines have a hand baggage measurement gauge at check-in.

    Syringes that are needed for diabetics and other medical reasons will only be allowed in hand luggage if you can prove the medical necessity. You may wish to phone the airline in advance to find out what they require as proof of your medical condition.

    All Luggage - What Not To Pack

    In addition to the restrictions on what is allowed in hand luggage, there are a number of items that must not be taken on board an aircraft, either as hand luggage or in the hold. Please do not pack the following anywhere in your carry on or check in luggage:

    Flammable liquids and solids Oxidisers
    Organic peroxides Gas cylinders
    Infectious substances Wet car cell batteries
    Instruments containing magnets Instruments containing mercury
    Magnetrons Fireworks
    Non-safety matches, fire lighters, lighter fuel Paints, thinners
    Poisons, arsenic, cyanide, weedkiller Acids, corrosives, alkalis, caustic soda
    Creosote, quicklime, oiled paper Radioactive materials
    Me and my fella spit our dummies out so we won't be coming back. ever. boo hoo.

    This is a techy / hackers forum not a fu**ing mothers meeting so - peace out.
