Embedding a blog into a website

A guy that recently graduated from an animation school would like me to set up a demo reel site for him.

The sections he would like me to create are:
- Resume Page
- Tutorials Page
- Contact Page
- Video Gallery
- Print Gallery
- Blog

Whereas the first 5 sections are fairly static (barring any future updates/additions), the Blog part has thrown me. He says he wants to be able to update and talk about what he's currently working on.

On a personal level, I've always wanted to learn how to add a Blog embedded into a site as well. I looked for information and only found links to external blog sites where you can set up a blog, but nothing where you can do it right in the page (and maybe even have the option of having visitors reply with comments!).

Can someone point me in the right direction as to how I would set this up?

Also, anyone know what would be a fair price to charge a recent college grad for this kind of work? I don't have a strong portfolio as is, so I can attribute this to building my portfolio and don't mind undercharging him, but I certainly don't want to throw out a price that makes him react like "wow this guy must suck to only ask that much."

Any advice you can give me is greatly appreciated.

I've always wanted to learn how to do a blog too...if you find out pass the info on...could be handy for a site i'm creating.

I'd recommend Wordpress I have had success with it. You'll need a database like MySQL. You can customise the look by modifing the css and script files.

It's ok to use 3rd party software however if it doesn't meet your needs then why not write one yourself in something like PHP with an SQL database? For a simple system like you describe, it would be very easy to make a basic control panel and then just pull it from the database in the blog section...

Got to agree with bitchthemitch and fredsuthers, wordpress is very easy to get along with. last weekend I managed to install and setup a blog on my website, with no previos knowledge of mysql or php.

I use wordpress on my site too, easy to use, plenty of plugins and themes for it
